World Series Game 5 live updates: Dodgers vs. Yankees time, lineups, TV channel

NEW YORK — The outcome of World Series Game 5 will decide whether the night ends with celebrations or departures.

After a strong performance in Game 4, the New York Yankees have revived their hopes in the series and will play their last home game at Yankee Stadium, facing a crucial moment with their season on the line. Currently down 3-1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, they’ll rely on their star pitcher Gerrit Cole, who impressed in his previous Game 1 six-inning outing.

On the other side, the Dodgers will send Jack Flaherty to the mound, who had a strong start in Game 1 but conceded a go-ahead two-run homer to Giancarlo Stanton. Ultimately, the Dodgers won that game thanks to a dramatic walk-off grand slam from Freddie Freeman, who has been consistently hitting homers throughout this series.

It’s possible the Yankees might decide to pitch carefully against Freeman, who has hit a home run in all four games so far, granting the Dodgers early leads in both Game 3 and Game 4.

The Dodgers are chasing their eighth title in franchise history, looking to win their first since 2020 and their first in a complete season since 1988.

If the Yankees secure a win, the series will shift back to Los Angeles, with the Dodgers leading 3-2, and Game 6 scheduled for Friday night.

Yankee fans banned after fan interference incident

The two Yankees fans who were removed from Game 4 for interfering with Mookie Betts will not be allowed back in the stadium for tonight’s game.

Contrary to his earlier assertion, season-ticket holder Austin Capobianco and his friend John Peter have been banned from attending Game 5, as confirmed by the Yankees.

In a statement, the Yankees said, “Both the Yankees and Major League Baseball have a strict zero-tolerance policy for such behavior.” These fans will not be allowed to attend tonight’s game at all.”

Yankees take inspiration from Red Sox’s ’04 comeback

NEW YORK − The message displayed on the electronic board in the Yankees’ clubhouse after their Game 4 win to stay alive in the World Series read, “Win Tomorrow Fly Thursday.”

The Yankees aim to continue their success and head to Los Angeles after a convincing 11-4 victory against the Dodgers, echoing the famous rhetoric from Kevin Millar of the Boston Red Sox in 2004.

“Don’t Let Us Win Tonight,” is the phrase that encapsulated the Red Sox’s historic playoff comeback against the Yankees, making them the only team in postseason history to recover from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.

The documentary recounting that legendary comeback was recently made available on Netflix.

“I’d like to create another one,” said Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo with a smile.

What is the record for most home runs in a World Series?

Freddie Freeman has successfully hit four home runs in this World Series, maintaining a streak in every game thus far. If he hits another in Game 5, he will tie the record of five home runs held by:

  • Reggie Jackson (Yankees, 1977)
  • Chase Utley (Phillies, 2009)
  • George Springer (Astros, 2017)

Interestingly, Jackson’s five were achieved during the Yankees’ victory over the Dodgers in six games. In 2009, the Yankees emerged triumphant over the Phillies, where Utley also contributed five home runs. Lastly, Springer managed this record in a seven-game series in 2017.
