What to see: We are sooooo set for Christmas
No matter how much candy you have leftover while the Arts the Clown Halloween decorations are still on. The actual holiday time is approaching. Hit it, Mariah Carey!
It’s November and we’re already in the yuletide spirit, so it’s time to look at all the major movies that will be in theaters starting in 2024. Prepare your musical skeletons for” Glicked”! – plus see Hallmark’s search for its upcoming Christmas movie slab. Of course, we have to get through Election Day first, and there’s plenty of political TV ( like Netflix’s excellently soapy” The Diplomat” ) to provide distraction. With the return of” About a Boy” actors Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in a new Clint Eastwood film, we’re feeling nostalgic for the 2000s.
Now on to the great products:
Prepare for the year with holiday shows,’ Getting Mr. Christmas ‘
I know what you’re pondering:” What’s this’ Glicked’ point he’s speaking about”? That’s the unofficial,” Barbenheimer”-style brand we’re applying for the obvious double function of the music” Cruel” and sword-and-sandals sequel” Gladiator II”, which come out Nov. 22. Both are must-see spectacles in my holiday movie preview, which also includes high-profile fare like” Nosferatu”,” Moana 2″ and” Mufasa: The Lion King”, plus Oscar-ready projects” The Brutalist” and” Nickel Boys”.
Fans of the season and those who have repeatedly watched the” Hot Frosty” trailer will want to check out” Finding Mr. Christmas,” a new reality series that chooses a champion for a lead role in a 2024 Hallmark Christmas movie. ( That picture? Dec. 21’s” Glad Howlidays”. I wish I was lying. ) My colleague Bryan Alexander did a piece on the show and interviewed host ( and” Mean Girls” alum ) Jonathan Bennett and lead judge Melissa Peterman, who talked about how there was a Christmas-y kerfuffle to find the right” You’re fired” catchphrase. ” I had a wonderful one”, she says. ” Mine was,’ You only got Kringled!’ Boom”!
Getting cheerful with Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette’s meeting for’ Juror# 2′
There’s quite a bit to like in Clint Eastwood’s steady and thought-provoking new courtroom drama” Juror# 2″, with standout performers ( from Kiefer Sutherland to national treasure J. K. Simmons ) and moral quandaries aplenty. And if you need a nostalgia hit, Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette, who played mother and son in the 2002 film” About a Son,” are back together for the first time in a few years.
I chatted with the duo about their reunion, with Hoult telling how “very content” he was to discuss moments with Collette and her experience a sense of pride doing beside him repeatedly:” Like, oh, my God, look at my boy move! He was therefore great. He’s become like this extraordinary actor”.
Stream Netflix’s ‘ The Diplomat ‘ and the best social indicates actually
While” Stranger Points” and” Squid Games” may garner some popular votes,” The Diplomat,” an entertaining and over-the-top movie starring Keri Russell as the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to Britain who is sort of sort of sort of be vetted as vice president, finds herself entangled in a variety of international political crises, is a Netflix show you may binge on. Rufus Sewell, who is still a powerful man, is a smart woman’s man. The second season is excellent, and TV critic Kelly Lawler points out that it definitely delivers for” the kind of person who wants distraction from the real world of politics with a fake one with more ridiculous conspiracies and government officials in nice suits making flirty eyes at one another.”
And because it’s election season, Kelly put together a ranking of the 10 best political shows ever, including” The West Wing”,” House of Cards” and” The Good Wife”.
