Netanyahu dismisses Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over ‘trust issues’
On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu terminated Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s position, attributing it to a “crisis of trust” amidst Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Netanyahu expressed that he could no longer trust Gallant while the nation is in warfare. He appointed Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz to replace Gallant, and Gideon Saar will step in for Katz.
After being dismissed, Gallant shared on X that safeguarding the State of Israel has always been his life’s mission.
The relationship between Gallant and Netanyahu soured during the war, particularly after Gallant urged Netanyahu in May to outline his strategy before resuming military operations in specific areas of Gaza. Furthermore, Gallant opposed the idea of instituting a military government in the region.
