Ben Affleck applauds Jennifer Lopez’s ‘amazing’ role in ‘Unstoppable’
Ben Affleck is praising his soon-to-be ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, for her impressive performance in the upcoming film “Unstoppable.”
While promoting his new project “Small Things Like These” alongside Matt Damon, Affleck shared his admiration for Lopez’s acting. He described her role as “amazing.”
Affleck spoke with Entertainment Tonight and highlighted their film, which features other actors like Jharrel Jerome, Don Cheadle, and Michael Peña, and is produced by their company, Artists Equity. He conveyed his pride in the project, stating, “This is another film we’re really excited about.”
He further explained, “‘Unstoppable’ differs quite a bit from this project, yet takes root in the dedication of truly talented artists.” He praised the director, Billy Goldenberg, along with Jennifer, Don, Jharrel, and Bobby Cannavale for their passionate involvement in the film.
The biopic centers on Anthony Robles, a real-life wrestler born with one leg, portrayed by Jerome, while Lopez plays his mother, Judy Robles. Cannavale takes on the role of Rick Robles, with Peña and Cheadle as coaches Bobby Williams and Shawn Charles, respectively. This film made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, with a broader release scheduled on Prime Video in January.
On the other hand, “Small Things Like These,” led by Cillian Murphy, is set to hit select theaters on Friday.
Affleck’s remarks come in light of Lopez filing for divorce from him in August, marking the second anniversary of their wedding in Georgia. This marriage was Affleck’s second and Lopez’s fourth; they had previously been engaged twice: first in 2002 and then again in 2021.
In October, the singer talked candidly about her breakup with comedian Nikki Glaser in an Interview magazine feature, revealing how she has been coping with the aftermath. She reflected on how she had to rebuild her life following what she described as her “whole … world exploded.”
“There have been moments when I thought I had it all figured out, and then life throws something else at me to test my resolve. It makes you wonder if you truly learned your lessons,” Lopez commented, hinting at the separation. “Looking back, I see things more clearly now, and while it doesn’t guarantee I won’t mess up again, when everything falls apart, you find yourself standing in the debris, asking, ‘How can I prevent this from happening again?'”
