Mazda recalls more than 150,000 cars: See which models are affected

Mazda has announced a recall affecting over 150,000 vehicles, including the CX-70 and CX-90 models.

The company is recalling 80,915 of its 2024-2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 models that are equipped with a Dash Electrical Supply Unit (ESU). According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall notice, Mazda stated that “during vehicle startup, the defroster, seat belt warning, 360-degree view monitor functions, and the PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not operate as intended.”

The report warned that if the ESU fails, there is an increased likelihood of a crash.

To resolve this issue, dealers will update the Dash ESU with enhanced software at no charge. Owners will receive recall notification letters by December 30. They can also reach out to Mazda’s customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 6, referencing recall number 7124J.

Other recalls from Mazda

Due to software problems

Mazda is also recalling 38,926 units of its 2024 CX-90 models. The NHTSA report indicates that “the engine may fail to restart after the idling stop feature (i-stop) deactivates the engine because of a software issue.”

The inability of the engine to restart could heighten the risk of a crash, as noted in the report.

To address this, dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) and battery energy control module (BECM) software free of charge. Recall notification letters will be sent out by December 30. Owners can call Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 6, referencing recall number 7024J.

Regarding a loss of drive power

Additionally, there’s another recall affecting 31,488 CX-70 and CX-90 units. The NHTSA report mentioned that the “powertrain control module (PCM) and engine control module (ECM) software may trigger malfunction indicator lights and cause a loss of drive power.”

The report clarified that losing drive power could increase crash risks.

Mazda dealers will perform the reprogramming of the PCM and ECM software without any charges. Notification letters for this recall are also expected to go out by December 30. For inquiries, owners may call Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 6, using recall number 7024J.
