Track marijuana ballot results in Florida, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota
On Tuesday, voters in four states decided on the legalization of marijuana.
Florida, North Dakota, and South Dakota had propositions for legalizing recreational marijuana, while Nebraska’s ballot included measures for both recreational and medical use.
Below are the latest vote totals and what each measure entails.
Florida
It appears that voters in Florida did not approve Amendment 3.
The race was called by Decision Desk HQ and the Associated Press, indicating the measure fell short of the required 60% support by several points.
Amendment 3 aimed to amend the state constitution to permit individuals aged 21 and older to possess, buy, and use marijuana for recreational purposes.
The amendment also sought to enable medical marijuana treatment facilities and other state-licensed organizations to grow, process, sell, and distribute marijuana products and related accessories.
Nebraska
In Nebraska, Initiative Measures 437 and 438 were focused on the legalization of medical marijuana (while recreational use remains illegal in the state).
- Initiative Measure 437 proposed legalizing the medical use, possession, and acquisition of up to 5 ounces of cannabis, provided a health care provider’s written recommendation is obtained.
- Initiative Measure 438 aimed to allow registered private entities to possess, produce, distribute, and dispense cannabis for medical use. This measure would also create the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission to oversee the industry.
The YSL News Nebraska results page indicates that 72% of voters favor Measure 437, and 68% support Measure 438, with 61% of the votes counted as of 12 a.m. ET Wednesday.
North Dakota
Initiated Measure 5 put before voters the question of whether adults over 21 should be allowed to consume and sell marijuana, while also establishing a regulatory body for the substance.
Medical marijuana is already permitted in the state.
The YSL News North Dakota page shows that the “No” vote was ahead at 52.5% compared to 47.5%, with more than 99% of the votes reported as of 12 a.m. Wednesday. The Associated Press declared the measure unsuccessful on Tuesday.
South Dakota
Initiated Measure 29 aimed to allow adults aged 21 and above to possess, cultivate, consume, and distribute marijuana and its accessories.
The YSL News South Dakota results page reported that the “No” vote led with 60% against 39%, with 44% of the votes counted as of 12 a.m. ET Wednesday.
