Ferrari’s Electric Revolution: The Arrival of Its First EV in 2026

The first Ferrari EV is set to arrive in 2026: Here are the details

Overview

Although Ferrari is committed to preserving its traditional combustion engines for as long as possible, the brand is not lagging in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The automaker is developing its first, yet-to-be-named EV, which is expected to be unveiled in late 2025 and launched in 2026.

By “developing,” we mean that actual prototypes are already being tested on public roads. CEO Benedetto Vigna has confirmed that the prototypes have been spotted using Maserati Levante’s chassis as a disguise, hinting at the expected size of the upcoming all-electric Ferrari.

Significance

Maranello has been tight-lipped about the new vehicle, with Vigna stating it will be created “the right way” and will “offer the unique driving excitement that defines Ferrari.” This aspect is vital for high-performance car enthusiasts, who have not yet shown a strong interest in EVs, to embrace this new direction and keep the Ferrari heritage alive in the future.

Architecture and Motor Features

What we do know is that it will stay true to Ferrari identity. The company has built a brand-new factory adjacent to its existing site, which will manufacture not only the EV but also all necessary components such as motors, transaxles, inverters, and batteries. Additionally, this facility will also produce hybrid and traditional combustion models on the same assembly line. This strategy allows Ferrari to maintain and restore vintage EVs in the future, in the same manner it does with classic gas-powered vehicles.

While Ferrari plans to handle most production internally, it will source its battery cells from an undisclosed supplier before assembling them into packs. The exact battery chemistry remains unspecified, but Vigna stated it won’t utilize the increasingly popular LFP formula, known for being less power-dense. The automaker anticipates a yearly increase of around 10 percent in battery power density for the foreseeable future.

We also know that this car won’t be silent. Vigna has assured us it will produce audible sounds due to electric motors; however, the brand is not interested in artificially generated noises, as seen in some competitors’ vehicles. This suggests they may adopt a strategy similar to Porsche’s, enhancing the natural sounds of the electric motors through the car’s sound system.

Moreover, this isn’t completely new for Ferrari, as they have been incorporating electric motors in their Formula 1 vehicles since the introduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) in 2009. This year, their latest hybrid race car won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the second consecutive time.

Current estimates suggest the Ferrari EV will be priced around $550,000 when orders open in 2026, although this has not been officially confirmed. Vigna referred to this figure as “surprising” and mentioned that Ferrari finalizes prices only one month ahead of production, without denying the estimate. Additionally, he noted that the company intends to focus more on personalization options, significantly affecting the overall price. The new factory has been designed with this goal in mind.

Currently, Ferrari is not disclosing expected sales volumes, but during a 2022 shareholder meeting, they indicated the EV could account for 5 percent of sales in its first year. By 2030, they expect full-electric vehicles to make up 40 percent of total sales. Some sources suggest that Ferrari might already be developing a second EV, though details on that model remain sparse.

Estimated price: $550,000

Anticipated launch date: Early 2026
