Cameron Diaz Returns to the Screen in ‘Back In Action’ with Jamie Foxx
After taking a ten-year hiatus from Hollywood, Cameron Diaz is making her comeback in “Back In Action.”
The movie, which will be available to stream on Netflix starting January 17, marks her return to film after a long break.
In “Back In Action,” Diaz reunites with her former co-star Jamie Foxx, who she last worked with in the 2014 adaptation of “Annie,” where she played Miss Hannigan.
The first teaser trailer released on Thursday reveals that Diaz and Foxx portray a couple of ex-CIA agents who traded their espionage careers for a family life but find themselves drawn back to their old lives as spies.
In a December 2023 episode of the “Lipstick on the Rim” podcast, Diaz responded to speculations about a feud with Foxx during the filming of their action-comedy.
“Jamie is the best. I love that guy so much,” Diaz expressed. “He’s truly special and immensely talented, making every moment fun. It’s frustrating hearing all the rumors about our set. At times, I just wanted to shout, ‘Guys! What are you talking about?'”
In a July 2022 interview with CBS’s Dana Jacobson, Diaz explained her reasons for stepping away from the acting world for eight years and shared her renewed readiness to embrace fame.
“After being immersed in something that consumed your life for so long, it felt good to step away momentarily, reflect on what the big picture is for me, and identify the areas where I could improve my involvement and feel more fulfilled. That’s what I did,” Diaz shared.
She added, “I do miss certain aspects of acting and filmmaking. … Making movies requires a unique skill set, and it’s enjoyable to engage in that process.”
In 2022, Diaz discussed her mental health challenges related to fame during a conversation with Michelle Visage, a judge on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” on the podcast “Rule Breakers.”
“Fame can be very infantilizing. It tends to keep you in a coddled state like when we see a child and think, ‘They’re adorable, I want to keep them that way.’ That’s often how people treat celebrities.”
