Blackpink, the record-breaking K-pop sensation, is gradually exploring individual pursuits.

Lisa is the latest member to take a leap into a solo career. In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine released on Thursday, she shared that she feels “scared and nervous” about venturing out on her own. However, with her latest single “Rockstar” leading up to her debut album, she is finding her way.

Lisa expressed to Billboard, “When my singles were released, the fans’ response was healing for me. It’s like, ‘Oh wow. I did a great job!’”

To achieve her solo release, Lisa had to step away from the conventional K-pop system where companies usually control an artist’s career. She established her own management and label, Lloud. She humorously remarked, “You can call me boss — Boss Lisa,” in her interview.

Blackpink isn’t just an ordinary girl group. With nine songs charting on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2016 and a fiercely devoted fanbase, they are a hit-making powerhouse. Lisa’s success as a solo artist is already clear.

In 2021, she dropped two singles, “Lalisa” and “Money,” with the latter making her the first K-pop artist to break into the top 40 of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Her achievements indicate a broader trend where K-pop continues to gain traction in the American music scene and beyond.

Lisa’s upcoming album is set to explore various musical styles, not just rap. “I believe people will be surprised by how versatile I can be,” she told Billboard.

Her new solo project doesn’t signify the end of Blackpink; the group has confirmed plans to reunite in 2025, Lisa revealed to Billboard.

Meanwhile, the other three members are also pursuing solo careers. Both Jennie and Rosé are working on new music. Lisa expressed her joy in their endeavors, saying, “They are like family to me, and I’m thrilled they’re dropping new songs. This is what we all aspired to accomplish.”

Lastly, Jisoo is exploring acting opportunities. Lisa, too, took the chance to return to her native Thailand, where she is filming for the upcoming season of “The White Lotus.”
