Sundance Head, winner of ‘The Voice’ Season 11, injured in unintentional gun accident

Country musician Sundance Head was accidentally shot in the stomach on Friday by one of his own firearms.

The 46-year-old, who won NBC’s “The Voice” in Season 11, is reportedly on track for a complete recovery, according to his representative Trey Newman.

“While putting his gun away at his Texas ranch, it slipped from the holster, made contact with the jeep, and accidentally discharged into his stomach, narrowly missing critical organs. He is expected to fully recover,” his agent shared in an emailed statement to YSL News on Saturday.

In a Facebook update on Saturday morning, Sundance’s wife Misty mentioned that he was discharged from the Tyler, Texas hospital late Friday, expressing deep gratitude for all the kind messages, calls, and prayers they received.

She added, “As you all know, he has a knack for writing. He won’t just have a song; he’ll have an entire album inspired by this incident.”

Earlier, Misty provided an update about Sundance’s condition on Facebook.

“We just got to the hospital and I finally saw him and heard his sweet voice. He’s in good spirits given the circumstances. The kids are with him now. Our prayers were heard as there was no internal damage from the gunshot,” she wrote in her post.

“Thank you all for your prayers,” she concluded. Sundance was still in recovery at the hospital when the message was shared.

“It was not a hunting rifle; he was not shot by anyone. He was outside the vehicle reaching for his .22 when it accidentally came out of its holster, struck the side of the jeep, and discharged. Sundance said it all happened so quickly that he saw the bullet coming out,” Misty explained.

Sundance Head showcased his talent during his blind audition with the Otis Redding classic “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.” Both Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Blake Shelton, a prominent country star, turned their chairs in response. Sundance ultimately chose to join Shelton’s team and ended up winning the competition.

Long before his victory in “The Voice” in 2016, he had attempted to win on Fox’s “American Idol” during its Season 7 in 2007, where he reached the Top 16 before being eliminated.
