Victoria Kjaer Theilvig from Denmark has just been named Miss Universe 2024, marking a significant achievement as the first contestant from Denmark to win the title.
<p“Who are you?” asked a handler right after her crowning on Saturday evening, as seen in a video posted on the competition’s official Instagram. With immense joy, she replied, “Miss Universe!” and couldn’t contain her excitement as she jumped up and down.
At just 21 years old, she identifies as an advocate for animal rights, a business owner, and a former professional dancer.
The day after her victory, she shared images of herself wearing her crown and sash in a hotel bathrobe, stating, “First sunrise as Miss Universe. Waking up filled with gratitude, dreams, and a crown − ready to begin this amazing journey.”
She triumphed over Miss Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina, who was named first runner-up. The top five included Miss Mexico Maria Fernanda Beltran Figueroa, Miss Thailand Opal Suchata Chuangsri, and Miss Venezuela Ileana Marquez Pedroza.
Miss USA Alma Cooper, who was crowned after a tumultuous previous year, did not earn a place in the finals.
The 73rd edition of the Miss Universe competition took place in Mexico City, which was hosting the event for the first time in 17 years. The ceremony was hosted by Mario López and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, featuring commentary from Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Zuri Hall.
