In Their Own Words: Trump Supporters Share Their Hopes for His Second Term
Donald Trump’s recent electoral victory has ignited tremendous enthusiasm and optimism among millions of Americans, especially regarding their financial situations. Trump’s campaign focused on promises to lower gas prices, curb inflation, reduce interest rates, and make America economically sustainable again, leading to his impressive win earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Trump’s opponents voiced concerns that his policies might prioritize economic interests over critical issues like human rights, healthcare access, and good governance.
However, supporters we spoke to from various locations across the nation expressed that the economy remains their primary concern. They are keen for the president to overturn Biden’s policies, which they associate with rising costs following the pandemic.
In the spirit of YSL News, we conducted interviews with Trump supporters nationwide to gather their expectations for life improvements during his second term. We focused on individuals from sectors Trump often emphasizes, including tipped workers, real estate agents, car salespeople, and small business owners.
Each of these interviews has been summarized and lightly edited for better readability.
Steelworker Talks About Trump’s Impact on Working-Class Pride
David Rose, a 43-year-old steelworker from Indian Head, Pennsylvania, commutes about an hour each way to his job at a U.S. Steel facility near Pittsburgh.
Rose identified as an independent voter until 2016, when he registered as a Republican to cast his vote for Trump in the primaries. He subsequently supported Trump again in 2020 and 2024. Rose and his fellow steelworkers had the chance to meet Trump at a rally in Latrobe just before the recent election, where Trump shared that eliminating taxes on their overtime pay could benefit them.
He works approximately 50 hours a week, but some of his coworkers clock over 80 hours.
David has lived in his hometown his entire life and has been married for eight years. In his free time, he enjoys deer hunting and fishing, and he and his wife try to take a few vacations yearly, including a week-long Caribbean cruise. He drives a Dodge Ram 1500 and enjoys listening to classic rock.
In what ways do you anticipate your life improving under the Trump administration?
The most notable improvement I expect is in the morale of the working class, as we are finally being acknowledged.
What is your top priority for President Trump when he takes office? I’d like to see a crackdown on illegal immigration and completion of the border wall.
How do you believe your finances will change under Trump? I expect my financial situation to get better with reduced taxes, including no tax on overtime, which is vital for working-class individuals.
What improvements do you foresee in your community with him as President? My community has united following the election results; everyone is pleased to see the end of the progressive agenda.
How do you anticipate the country’s situation improving under Trump?
I believe the nation will become safer, as he will enhance our military and help the U.S. regain its strong position internationally through a policy of peace via strength.
Have you noticed any improvements in your life under previous administrations? Which ones and in what ways?
Working conditions and pay for steelworkers improved during Trump’s first term, especially due to tariffs on Chinese steel that helped preserve the American steel industry.

Immigrant Restaurant Manager’s Perspective
Juan Felipe Paredes, 52, moved to the United States thirty years ago. After working in Miami, he relocated eight years ago to the Florida panhandle, where he now manages a restaurant in Pensacola.
Paredes expressed that for the last four years, the U.S. economy has felt stagnant, and he is eager for a shift.
He noted a decline in restaurant visits and highlighted that when people do dine out, they frequently use credit cards. While he admires Barack Obama as his favorite president, he has supported Donald Trump in every election over the past three cycles, believing that Trump is essential for rejuvenating the U.S. economy.
In what specific ways do you anticipate your life will improve with a Trump administration?
I expect the economy to improve. Although I’m not an economist, I wake up early and work hard, fulfilling my responsibilities as a U.S. citizen and paying taxes. The economy feels stagnant; I’m not going out as often as before since it has become unaffordable, and everything seems too expensive.
What is the first action you’d like President Trump to take once in office?
I believe securing our nation begins with protecting our borders. While I welcome people coming to the U.S., they should follow the proper procedures. There are individuals entering our country illegally, which drains our resources and harms the nation.
In what way do you foresee your financial situation improving with Trump as president?
Interest rates can only decrease when inflation is under control. I aim to invest in rental properties; however, I haven’t purchased anything in the last two years due to interest rates being between 7% and 8%. That said, we are fortunate to live in this country. In Colombia, mortgage rates sit between 12% and 15%. Here, we have 7% to 8%, yet the economy is stalled. If home purchases halt, new construction ceases, impacting jobs in various trades.
How do you envision your community benefiting from his presidency?
Improved economic conditions will create jobs. Currently, Pensacola is struggling with employment opportunities; previously, jobs were plentiful. Nowadays, finding work is a challenge. Once the construction sector begins flourishing, job availability will rise.
Have you experienced improvements in your life under previous presidents? Which ones and how?
It may seem inconsistent that I support Donald Trump while considering Barack Obama one of my favorite presidents. I admire him for the person he is and believe he was a good leader not only for the U.S. but for the world. I perceive Donald Trump as an effective president for the U.S.

Oil and gas “landman” advocates for increased drilling
For almost 50 years, Steve Degenfelder, a 67-year-old from Wyoming, has assisted oil companies in locating land for exploration and drilling. In his role as a “landman,” he has witnessed the fluctuations in America’s oil industry and looks forward to a second Trump administration, hoping it will enhance prosperity in Wyoming, where over half of the state’s revenue comes from oil, gas, and coal taxes.
For individuals like Degenfelder, criticisms of the oil and gas sector threaten not only their livelihoods but the cultural fabric of the state.
Q: What specific improvements do you expect in your life under a Trump administration?
A: I believe that lower gas prices will bolster the economy in Wyoming and nationwide, as reduced oil and gas prices lead to lower overall costs and transportation expenses, which can stimulate economic growth.
What initial action would you like from President Trump to better your situation?
I’d like him to instruct the Secretary of the Interior to pursue his previous initiative on energy dominance, especially since I reside in Wyoming.
How do you foresee your financial situation changing with Trump in office?
It might remain stable; achieving energy independence could lower oil and gas prices while simultaneously increasing the volumes we produce.
What improvements do you anticipate for your community with him as president?
A stable business environment will encourage capital investment, greatly benefitting Wyoming. Many residents believe that the Secretary of the Interior has greater authority over their mineral rights than even the governor of Wyoming.
How do you expect the country to benefit from his leadership?
This campaign has instilled a sense of pride in people for their country, and a positive mindset can significantly influence business investments.
Have you seen improvements in your life during previous presidential terms? Which ones, and how so?
When Trump completed his term as president, there were fewer oil and gas leases available compared to when President Obama ended his presidency. Contrary to popular belief, Trump’s administration was not a complete free-for-all. Following Biden’s inauguration, the Department of the Interior imposed strict restrictions, leading to a negative situation as all oil and gas exploration efforts came to a standstill. Investors are hesitant when the environment is unpredictable.

Californian Realtor Optimistic About Trump’s Control Over the Border
Despite Trump unlikely to win California, Jeanne Solnordal, chair of the Alameda County (Calif.) Republican Party, believed he still had a chance. She was right, as Trump made modest gains in important regions of this typically Democratic state, such as Santa Clara County (which includes Silicon Valley) and Napa County (known for its wineries).
Solnordal, who has a long history in real estate investment, strongly supports Trump’s housing initiatives, which aim to increase home construction, utilize federal land for affordable housing, simplify strict permitting processes, and reduce mortgage rates. Additionally, she advocates for tighter immigration controls.
In what ways do you expect your life to improve if Trump returns to office?
I anticipate he will manage immigration better. We need robust control at the border, as there is too much crime. I hope he can ease the legalization process. If the border is controlled better, we can allow more people in through legal channels. During my time at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the focus was on unity; it’s essential that Republicans and Democrats collaborate instead of wasting resources fighting without achieving results. There’s a lot we can agree on, but extreme partisanship obstructs genuine progress.
What is the first thing you would like President Trump to do upon taking office to improve your life?
I want him to prioritize controlling the border more effectively. We have enough existing issues to deal with. Additionally, our educational system needs reform. Ideally, he could encourage states to ensure equitable education for all students. Without a proper education, we cannot expect our children to thrive.
How do you foresee your financial situation improving with Trump in power?
I expect a more stable financial environment. Many people live paycheck to paycheck, and the increasing homeless population struggles to find housing. I hope we can develop more affordable housing options for everyone. Additionally, I wish for adjustments in utility bills and insurance rates; my water bill feels like ‘liquid gold.’
I am also optimistic he might find ways to lessen our tax burden since we are forced to budget tightly.
How do you believe your community will change with him in office?
Yes, I hope for safer neighborhoods, as one of his campaign promises was to equip law enforcement properly. Residing in Oakland, I would like to see federal support to aid our police in ensuring our safety. You don’t need to be politically aligned to desire a secure city.
How do you think the country will progress under his leadership?
I hope he can foster unity, which the nation desperately needs. I believe he will address inflation, enhance border security, and focus more on domestic issues.
Have you noticed improvements in your life under any past presidential administrations? If so, which ones and how?
I appreciated Bill Clinton—before his scandals—especially his initiative to transition welfare recipients to work rather than merely providing checks. I hope Trump can implement similar strategies to assist the homeless who are capable of work.

Ex-Coal Miner Turned Car Salesman Believes Trump is Here for the Working Class
Rob Moore, a 35-year-old third-generation coal miner, was forced to change careers after a downturn in mining reduced his hours and pay in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, two years ago. To keep his family afloat, the married father of four switched to car sales, where he claims to excel.
In May, Moore relocated his family closer to relatives in “Coal Country” at the Pennsylvania-West Virginia border, settling in the unincorporated coal town of Bobtown, which has around 800 residents. Although he’s no longer working in the mines, he remains in car sales. As a first-time voter who has become politically active, Moore hopes that Trump’s second term will bring greater prosperity.
What specific improvements do you anticipate in your life with Trump back in office?
I believe President Trump will manage the country like a business, which is what we need. He is a successful individual who, despite facing challenges, has supported blue-collar workers like me who keep this country running. He stands for oil rig operators and coal miners. He’s here for us.
What is the first thing you wish Trump would do in office to better your life?
My hope is that he aims to improve everyone’s situations, not just mine. I want accessible health care and benefits for all. It’s critical to better support our veterans. My dad served as a Marine, as did many of my uncles and close friends. We need to ensure our veterans receive the care and benefits they deserve.
How do you envision your financial situation enhancing under Trump’s leadership?
It’s already showing signs of improvement; I’ve sold nine cars since Trump’s victory and was the top salesman at my dealership last month with 25 sales. Many people had concerns before Election Day that with Harris as vice president, they would need to hold onto their finances more stringently. But there’s…“`html
There’s a feeling of relief now that Trump has won. We can finally exhale.
I truly believe gas prices will decrease along with interest rates, and our living expenses may lower as well. Instead of constant price hikes, perhaps we can start saving five dollars here and there, which can add up. There are many things we could do with that extra cash.
Anything he can do to bring prices down and lower our overall expenses is welcome. Going to Walmart these days and spending $100 makes you question what you actually bought. In the past, a $100 trip would fill your car with bags, but now it feels less rewarding.
My wife, Niki, took a break from her job to raise our kids, and she knows how to stretch $40 when needed. We come from humble beginnings and face challenges, but there’s always food on our table, which we are thankful for.
In what ways do you anticipate your community will benefit from his presidency?
Currently, my community is quite strong. I believe it will become even more resilient with Trump back in power, helping to reduce our living costs, benefiting everyone. No one in our neighborhood is going to go hungry; if we have enough, they will too. Yes, times are hard and have been for a while, but I really believe things will improve. It has to; it can’t get any worse.
How do you think the country will do better under his leadership?
He will be honest with us and encourage Americans to be more self-sufficient. He will also be stricter with countries we interact with regarding tariffs. It’s crucial for us to rely more on our own energy resources rather than depending on foreigners. We have relied on others for far too long, and it’s time we focus on our own resources.
Did you see any improvements in your life with previous presidents? Which ones and how?
My life felt stable while Trump was in office the first time, and I had fewer worries. I worked 50-60 hours weekly in the mines, but after he left, things slowed down, leading us to less work due to new regulations, machinery, and competition from states like Pennsylvania and New Mexico.
This is why I decided to vote for him on Election Day—my first time voting ever. We even stayed up late to track the results. When they announced he was winning Pennsylvania, we felt a sense of accomplishment for doing our part. Trump supports the hard-working people of America.

Detroit handyman wants Trump to keep his word
James Jones, a 43-year-old from Detroit, values honesty and reliability, which he expects from Trump during his second term. As a married father of two adult children, he voted for Trump in 2020 and did so again this month, citing Trump’s commitment to improving the economy.
This handyman, who operates a small business that includes tasks like sink installation, was surprised by Trump’s decisive victory. “I honestly thought Harris would win given the funds she raised,” he admitted, noting he was among the 20% of Black men nationally who supported Trump on Election Day. “I guess I was right after all.” Jones wants Trump to focus on the pressing issues ahead.
What improvements do you hope to see in your life under a Trump administration?
For me, it’s straightforward. I want Trump to help keep more money in our hands as he did before COVID struck because these last few years under Biden have been difficult. I want him to prioritize American needs, create more middle-class jobs, and stop sending funds to foreign countries for their conflicts. America has enough issues to address right here.
What is the first action you’d like Trump to take when he’s in office to improve your life?
I expect him to fulfill the promises he made during his campaign. He’s experienced and should adhere to what he pledged—run the country responsibly. Keep your commitments. Please. Work on lowering our costs, whether it’s food prices, gas, or utilities. End those wars as promised.
How do you believe your financial situation will change with Trump in office?
I understand it may take time, but I hope it won’t stretch over four years. I want to grow my business and bring on a few contractors to help distribute the workload so we can all work, earn, and care for our families. We need to ensure our spending supports American businesses first before looking elsewhere, unless absolutely necessary, to create a positive ripple effect, particularly for small businesses.
How do you think your community will change with him as president?
Honestly, it relies on everyone … It’s a collective effort. I cherish my community and know we need to take the initiative to enhance it ourselves. Many resist progress; some people prefer comfortable lies over harsh truths.
I’m aware of many who supported Trump because they resonated with his words and empathized with their struggles. They didn’t blindly accept the perspective of the Democrats, who have taken our votes for granted. That’s why many, particularly Black voters in Detroit, chose Trump. It wasn’t just me; it was people making choices that suited their needs despite the difficulty. The decisions are not always easy, and times are tough.
What improvements do you expect for the country under his presidency?
Trump is blunt and straightforward, no sugarcoating, whether good or bad. I have no doubt he will work to enhance the financial situation of the U.S. I really don’t think he will let other countries push him around.
Have you experienced any enhancements in your life with past presidential administrations? Which ones were beneficial and why?
Simply put, I had more disposable income when Trump was in office. I believe many Americans share the same sentiment.
