Justin Jefferson Shatters Randy Moss’ Receiving Record for the Vikings

Vikings WR Justin Jefferson breaks Randy Moss’ franchise record for receiving yards

Randy Moss is celebrated as one of the top receivers in Minnesota Vikings’ history, but Justin Jefferson is making his own mark by exceeding one of Moss’ franchise records in Week 11.

Back in 2002, Moss set the record for the most receiving yards by a Vikings player in their first five seasons. From age 21 to 25, the Hall of Famer participated in all 80 games for Minnesota, accumulating 6,743 receiving yards.

Heading into the Vikings’ match against the Tennessee Titans in Week 11, Jefferson was close to breaking Moss’ record. With a total of 69 games played over four and a half seasons, he had achieved 6,730 yards, just 13 yards short of Moss’s five-season total.

After making two catches for nine yards, Jefferson secured a 31-yard pass from quarterback Sam Darnold early in the second quarter, thereby surpassing Moss’ record in 10 fewer games.

The fifth-year receiver, who played at LSU, previously set another franchise record in 2020, becoming the Vikings’ all-time rookie for receiving yards with 1,400—surpassing Moss’ rookie total of 1,313 in 1998.

Jefferson still has the opportunity to extend his newly acquired franchise record in the remaining seven games of Minnesota’s season.
