This season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have soared to a flawless 15-0 record under the leadership of their new coach, Kenny Atkinson, becoming the fourth team in NBA history to begin a season with 15 straight victories.

They achieved this by defeating the Charlotte Hornets 128-114 on Sunday.

Leading into the game, the Cavaliers boasted the highest-scoring offense in the league (123.4 points per game) and ranked first in shooting accuracy both overall (52.1% FG) and from three-point range (41.8% 3FG).

However, they have yet to reach the NBA’s all-time best start, as there is one team with a better record. The encouraging news for the Cavaliers is that in the past, all three previous teams that kicked off a season with 15 wins ultimately advanced to the NBA Finals.

The Golden State Warriors from the 2015-16 season, who later set a record for the highest number of wins in a single regular season (73), also established the record for the best season start in NBA history.

The Warriors started their season 24-0 before tasting defeat for the first time on December 12 against the Bucks. This remarkable achievement shattered the previous NBA record held by the 1993-94 Houston Rockets and the 1948-49 Washington Capitols, both of whom started the season at 15-0.

Interestingly, it was not head coach Steve Kerr who oversaw that incredible start; he was recovering from back surgery and missed the first 43 games. Instead, assistant coach Luke Walton stepped in as the acting coach and guided the Warriors to a 24-0 record, eventually finishing with a 39-4 record prior to Kerr’s return.

The 2015-16 Warriors, however, lost to the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals in a seven-game series.
