The Daily Money: Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy
Spirit Airlines has announced today that it is filing for bankruptcy protection after experiencing a series of quarterly financial losses, unsuccessful attempts at mergers, and facing significant debt deadlines.
The situation worsened for Spirit following the failure of its $3.8 billion merger attempt with JetBlue Airways back in January and complications with an engine from a manufacturer that left many of Spirit’s planes unable to fly, according to my colleague Zach Wichter.
