Wendy’s unveils spicy chicken sandwiches for just $3.99: Here’s how to snag yours
Wendy’s is reducing the price of one of its popular items throughout the holiday season.
On Monday, the chain announced that customers can purchase a spicy chicken sandwich for only $3.99, but it’s available exclusively via the Wendy’s app. This promotion runs until December 29, the restaurant confirmed.
This spicy chicken sandwich consists of a chicken breast that’s both marinated and breaded with Wendy’s distinctive spicy blend of peppers and spices, and it comes topped with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.
How to redeem the $3.99 spicy chicken sandwich offer
This promotion is available for a limited time at participating Wendy’s locations and must be redeemed through the Wendy’s app. Customers can find more details about the offer in the app itself.
Wendy’s set to close 140 underachieving outlets by the year’s end
Wendy’s is fast-tracking the closure of many of its less successful restaurants globally, while simultaneously planning to open a similar number of new ones, as discussed by executives during last month’s earnings call.
The fast-food chain will shut down an additional 140 locations this year, according to Chief Financial Officer Gunther Plosch, who mentioned that these “outdated” restaurants significantly underperform, with an average sales volume around $1.1 million.
Nevertheless, the company intends to replace these locations with newer, more profitable ones that achieve average sales of $2 million or more.
Wendy’s spokesperson Heidi Schauer confirmed that around 250 to 300 new locations are expected to open in 2024.
“Following our strategic assessment, we now anticipate a balance between openings and closures, leading to a roughly neutral net growth in 2024,” Schauer noted in a statement.
Wendy’s President and CEO Kirk Tanner mentioned on the earnings call that these underperforming outlets will be replaced by new establishments in more lucrative areas.
“When you evaluate our system’s strength, you recognize that a brand like ours, which is 55 years old, includes some locations that are simply outdated,” Tanner explained to investors.
He also pointed out that the company has already opened approximately 500 locations in the last two years.
