Will We See Them in the Playoffs? Chiefs and Bills Deserve Another Showdown
Let’s do it again.
The recent game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills on Sunday was likely just a teaser for what’s to come.
Josh Allen outperformed Patrick Mahomes, bringing the Chiefs’ unbeaten streak to an end. Still, there feels like there’s more to be resolved. The game concluded, yet it didn’t feel final.
Here’s a thought: What are the odds we see these two teams go head-to-head in the playoffs again?
“A hundred percent,” said Bills defensive end Von Miller after their 30-21 victory. “In some capacity, whether at home or away, we’ll face the Chiefs again. Be it the divisional round, the AFC championship, or whatever, we’ll see the Chiefs again.”
Just think about the excitement! When they clashed in the AFC divisional playoff last January in Buffalo, it drew an average of over 50 million viewers on CBS – the highest for any NFL broadcast apart from a Super Bowl or a conference championship game. This past Sunday’s game likely attracted impressive numbers as well.
It would be appropriate for them to meet again, regardless of the setting. The rivalry has produced plenty of intensity, drama, and top-level competition. Rarely do highly anticipated sports events manage to surpass the excitement—but Chiefs vs. Bills consistently does.
There’s always excitement surrounding these teams. Last January, a Bills field goal attempt that could have tied the game in the dying minutes missed its target. In a previous divisional playoff, Mahomes executed a game-tying drive in the last 13 seconds of regulation, leading Kansas City to an overtime victory.
This past Sunday, Allen sealed the deal with a critical 26-yard touchdown run that effectively eliminated the Chiefs’ chances of staging another comeback.
However, Allen recognizes the reality: They will meet the Chiefs again. The Bills have yet to win against Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs. To achieve Super Bowl dreams, it appears they will have to surmount the Chiefs yet again. Otherwise, their journey might be incomplete.
<p“Given our history, we often end up facing each other in the playoffs,” Allen remarked.
Nonetheless, Allen isn’t quite ready to dwell on that possibility just yet.
“We’re not there yet,” he stated. “We’ll focus on that when the time comes.”
And everyone in the football world will be watching closely. With great anticipation.
