Another prestigious award is being added to Viola Davis’s already impressive collection.

The acclaimed 59-year-old actress will be presented the Cecil B. DeMille Award during the 2025 Golden Globes, as confirmed by the event’s organizers on Wednesday.

Davis, who secured the Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her role in the 2016 drama “Fences,” will be honored for her significant contributions to the world of entertainment, based on a statement from the newly formed Golden Globes organization that has taken the place of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

“Viola Davis is an extraordinary talent who has profoundly influenced how we view and understand cinema,” said Helen Hoehne, the president of the Golden Globes. “This award celebrates her unwavering commitment to her work and the substantial impact she’s had on the industry.”

The Cecil B. DeMille Award, created in 1952 and named after the legendary filmmaker, has been awarded to 69 distinguished artists, including notable figures like Walt Disney, Sidney Poitier, Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford, Oprah Winfrey, and Denzel Washington, who starred alongside Davis in “Fences.”

Davis won the Academy Award for best supporting actress for “Fences” in 2017. The star of “The Woman King” achieved EGOT status by winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, with her most recent Grammy win occurring in 2023 for best audio book, narration, and storytelling recording for her memoir “Finding Me.”

The 2025 Golden Globes ceremony, featuring Nikki Glaser as the host, will be held in Los Angeles on January 5 and will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+. It marks the first major awards ceremony of the season, with nominations set to be revealed on December 9.
