Anne Hathaway set to star in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s ‘Verity’
Anne Hathaway has been announced as the lead in “Verity,” which is the latest film adaptation from the well-known author Colleen Hoover.
According to an Amazon spokesperson, Hathaway will collaborate with director Michael Showalter (“The Big Sick,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”) for this film, produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Hathaway and Showalter recently worked together on the Amazon film “The Idea of You,” which premiered in March. The screenplay for “Verity” is penned by Nick Antosca, who co-wrote and produced the Hulu docudrama series “The Act,” centered around Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Hathaway will portray the character Verity Crawford in this adaptation.
The film’s producers include Hoover, Hathaway, Showalter, Alex Hedlund (“The Great Wall,” “As Above, So Below”), Jordana Mollick (“The Love Birds”), and Stacey Sher (“Django Unchained,” “Erin Brockovich”), as reported by an Amazon representative to YSL News.
This adaptation follows Hoover’s successful first book-to-film transition of “It Ends With Us,” which debuted in August. Featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the film grossed an impressive $349.5 million globally on a production budget of $25 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

Published in 2018, “Verity” tells the tale of a writer named Lowen Ashleigh who is struggling financially. She receives “the job offer of a lifetime” and begins working for Jeremy Crawford, the husband of successful author Verity Crawford. Her job involves completing the unfinished books of Verity, who has recently passed away under mysterious circumstances.
Upon her arrival at the Crawford home, Ashleigh quickly realizes that nothing is as it appears. She uncovers dark secrets through an unfinished manuscript that reveals chilling details about the family’s history. As she delves deeper into her task, Ashleigh must decide if Verity’s writings are simply fiction or if they are the warnings of a disturbed individual.
