Today Show Host Expresses Confusion After Richard Gere’s Unexpected Gesture

‘I’m confused’: ‘Today’ show host responds after Richard Gere makes a rude gesture

“Oh, my apologies, but that was part of my scene,” Gere explained.

Oops! A moment of surprise unfolded during an interview with actor Richard Gere on NBC’s “Today” show on Wednesday morning.

Just a day after the iconic singer Cher let slip a curse word while talking to host Hoda Kotb, Gere gave a playful middle finger to “Today” host Savannah Guthrie.

“You’ve just made an inappropriate gesture on this family morning show,” Guthrie pointed out after Gere flashed his middle finger on live TV, just moments into their chat.

However, Gere’s gesture wasn’t meant to offend; he was simply portraying a scene from his upcoming TV series.

“You know, Cher was here dropping F-bombs yesterday, so I’m not sure what’s going on,” Guthrie joked.

What transpired?

The show featured a clip of Gere’s performance in “The Agency,” a political thriller. After the clip ended, Gere raised his middle finger while Guthrie attempted to block it with the documents she was holding.

“Oh, my bad, but that’s what I did in the scene,” Gere stated.

He was merely illustrating what his character did in the excerpt, which concluded right before he gave the middle finger to another character.

“It made no sense without context,” Gere added.

What’s the deal with Cher?

On the “Today” show the previous day, Cher discussed her relationship with her late ex-husband, Sonny Bono, and their divorce.

She mentioned that he took the entirety of their earnings as a duo.

“He left me with just a car and my clothes,” the legendary singer recalled.

When Kotb inquired about advice Hollywood icon Lucille Ball had given her, Cher warned that it was not suitable for broadcast.

“We can bleep it,” Kotb said.

Cher explained that Ball was the only figure she could think of who had gone through a similar experience and encouraged Cher to seek guidance.

“And she said, ‘F— him, you’re the one with the talent,'” Cher shared, laughing as she recounted the advice.

Kotb laughed, captivated by Cher’s bold statement.

“Well, you told me I could!” Cher joked back with a smile.
