Teams in the College Football Playoff 2024
During the 2024-25 season, the College Football Playoff will consist of 12 teams. The top five conference champions will automatically qualify, with the leading four receiving a first-round bye. The other seven highest-ranked teams will complete the 12-team roster.
Understanding the College Football Playoff Format
The 12 teams entering the College Football Playoff will include the five highest-ranked conference champions, in addition to the seven next best-ranked teams.
The top four ranked conference champions will be seeded from one to four, granting them a first-round bye. The fifth-ranked conference champion will be slotted based on its ranking or as the No. 12 seed if it falls outside the top 12 in the CFP rankings. Top ranked non-conference champions will be seeded starting from No. 5.
“Consequently,” the CFP alerts on its official site, “the seeding from 1 to 12 may differ from the final rankings.”
