Chiefs Welcome D.J. Humphries: What the Former Pro Bowl Tackle Brings to Kansas City
The Kansas City Chiefs are enhancing their offensive line.
D.J. Humphries, a free agent tackle, is set to join the Chiefs, according to a source familiar with the agreement who wished to remain anonymous as the contract is not finalized yet.
This contract could reach a total of $4.5 million for the remainder of the season.
Humphries has fully recovered from an ACL injury he suffered last season.
While other teams expressed interest, he opted for the reigning champions of the Super Bowl.
Standing at 6-foot-5, Humphries was picked in the first round of the 2015 draft by the Arizona Cardinals, where he played all 98 games of his career.
D.J. Humphries’ Role in Kansas City
Approaching his 31st birthday next month, Humphries was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2021.
This season, the Chiefs have struggled with their performance at left tackle. Kingsley Suamataia started the season but was benched after just two weeks. Wanya Morris stepped in but has also had uneven performances.
If Humphries can get back to his pre-injury performance, he could bring stability to the left tackle position for Kansas City. His medical clearance post-injury is a good sign and makes this acquisition a worthwhile risk.
Currently, the Chiefs stand at 9-1 and are set to face the 3-7 Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
