Forward Grant Williams will likely be sidelined for an extended period after incurring an injury during the final moments of Saturday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, which the Hornets lost 125-119.

This season, Williams has been performing well, shooting 43.9% from the field while averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in roughly 30 minutes across the first 16 games. His average of 10.4 points per game represents his highest scoring record in his six-year career, having been chosen in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics.

The Hornets have revealed that the MRI results show Williams suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. He is set to receive more assessments regarding his knee.

 

As per the team’s report, Williams will remain listed as out indefinitely until further updates on his condition are available.

 

ESPN has indicated that Williams may have also inflicted damage to his meniscus and other knee ligaments, which could effectively bench him for the entire season, but this has not yet been confirmed by the Hornets.
