Tulsa dismisses football coach Kevin Wilson after two seasons
The University of Tulsa has let go of football coach Kevin Wilson, just one game away from the end of the season.
This announcement was made by athletic director Justin Moore on Sunday morning, following a 63-30 loss to South Florida, marking the ninth time in two seasons that the Golden Hurricane has lost by over 30 points.
“As the world of college athletics continues to change, it’s crucial for us to position our football program and athletic department for future success,” Moore stated. “We expect to compete in bowl games every year, aim for conference championships, and create a program that makes everyone associated with the Golden Hurricane proud.”
Under Wilson’s leadership, Tulsa had a record of 7 wins and 16 losses over two seasons.
Previously, Wilson had a record of 26 wins and 47 losses, including two bowl game defeats, during his six years at Indiana from 2011 to 2016. Before his stint at Tulsa, he was Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.
At age 63, Wilson becomes the sixth head coach in the American Athletic Conference to be let go this season.
Ryan Switzer, who serves as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, will take over in the interim as the Golden Hurricane prepares to face Florida Atlantic next Saturday to conclude the season.
