Here’s all the essential information you need regarding Black Friday, including tips on when and where to find the best deals.

When is Black Friday 2024?

This year, Black Friday is scheduled for Friday, November 29, the day following Thanksgiving, which occurs on Thursday, November 28.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is known as one of the largest shopping events of the year. The term “Black Friday” is said to have originated in the 1950s when police in Philadelphia used it to describe the frenzied shopping scene caused by suburban shoppers flocking into the city, as reported by YSL News.

Although the name started in Philadelphia in 1961, it only gained national recognition in the late 1980s. Retailers took the opportunity to rework its image, explaining it as a time when stores move from being “in the red” (operating at a loss) to “in the black” (making a profit) due to huge sales the day after Thanksgiving.

Many still believe this to be the real origin of Black Friday’s name, according to earlier reports by YSL News.

When do Black Friday 2024 Sales Start?

As online shopping grows in popularity, many retailers have started their “Black Friday” deals earlier and are extending them longer, allowing more time for consumers to take advantage of the offers. Stores like Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, Staples, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and Target began their discounts as early as the start of November. However, some of the most significant deals tend to be available on the actual Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

When does Black Friday Start on Amazon?

Amazon’s Black Friday Week commenced on Thursday, November 21, and runs until Friday, November 29. Shoppers can enjoy discounts of up to 55% on select Amazon devices, including Amazon Fire Smart TVs and Kindles, as well as up to 50% off various branded merchandise from Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars. There are also promotions with up to 50% off certain vacuum cleaners from brands like iRobot, Roborock, and Shark. The retailer will feature flash deals throughout the week and on the main day itself.

The store is offering discounts of up to 70% on a variety of products ranging from cookware and beauty items to toys and clothing.

The in-store happenings will start at 6 a.m. local time on Friday, November 29.
