Kurt Angle praises The Bloodline, Roman Reigns: ‘He is the best wrestler today’
The Bloodline storyline in WWE has turned out to be one of the most compelling narratives in the wrestling world, drawing the attention of a WWE Hall of Famer who has offered his praise—despite having previously expressed doubts.
In August 2023, Kurt Angle, a four-time WWE Champion and Olympic gold medalist, was skeptical when Paul Heyman asserted that The Bloodline was only in the “bottom of the third” of its narrative. Fast forward a year, and The Bloodline has remained at the forefront of WWE, gearing up for another major match at Survivor Series: WarGames this Saturday. Perhaps Heyman’s prediction was spot on, and Angle is now thoroughly impressed by the unfolding story.
“The Bloodline saga has been truly remarkable,” Angle shared with YSL News Sports. “It has done phenomenal things for the industry.”
Angle not only commended The Bloodline’s storyline but also highlighted Roman Reigns’ exceptional performance throughout this period. Since The Bloodline’s inception in summer 2021, Reigns has transformed from a despised champion into a fan-favorite figure as he aims to reclaim his title as the Tribal Chief. Angle noted that Reigns has significantly honored his lineage and elevated himself to the pinnacle of the sport over the last few years.
“Roman is, without a doubt, the best wrestler today,” Angle declared. “He embraced the role and progressed quickly, consistently getting better, and ultimately becoming the best. Right now, he’s red-hot. He could easily be the company’s biggest face or biggest heel, depending on his choices.”
Reflecting on the longevity of the storyline, Angle remarked on how “incredible” it is that it has been able to evolve continuously, stating that such occurrences are rare in wrestling. He hopes the culmination of the story pays off, emphasizing that whatever the outcome, it will be worthwhile.
Kurt Angle’s Commitment to USA Wrestling
Apart from keeping tabs on wrestling, Angle is also focused on raising funds to support USA wrestling as preparations begin for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The Olympic gold medalist from the 1996 Atlanta Games shared that many U.S. wrestlers struggle financially and cannot dedicate themselves fully to training—a challenge he faced earlier in his career. His aim is to secure enough funding so that athletes can train full-time without needing secondary jobs that detract from their competition.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Team USA brought home seven wrestling medals, including golds won by Amit Elor in the women’s 68-kilogram category and Sarah Hildebrandt in the 50-kilogram class. This performance ranked third overall in wrestling, following Japan and Iran, and Angle hopes Team USA can build on this success.
“These athletes deserve our support,” he emphasized. “If they can focus solely on training and competition, they will make history. I firmly believe that.”
Another advantage for Team USA in the upcoming Olympics is the home-field edge they’ll enjoy. Angle reminisced about his own experience competing on home turf, noting how beneficial it is not to have to adjust to new time zones or lifestyles during the Games. He believes this will provide a significant boost four years from now.
“There will be athletes from all over the globe, but the majority of the audience will be Americans, and having your home country cheering for you is a tremendous advantage,” Angle remarked.
Additionally, Angle is having a film produced about his life, focusing on his Olympic journey. He revealed that the script is nearly complete and the project is currently seeking investors to move forward with filming.
