Why We Can’t Stop Watching the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Christmas Movie
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are currently the talk of the town. They light up our screens on NFL Sundays, share sweet moments in viral videos from The Eras Tour, and are featured in paparazzi shots while out dining.
But that’s just not enough! The couple’s romance is now being adapted into a new Lifetime movie, along with another Hallmark film that tells a separate love story but includes a cameo by Kelce’s mother, Donna.
So, what keeps us so fascinated by this love story? Perhaps it’s the allure of a sports hero in a classic romantic comedy or the excitement of seeing a pop culture icon paired with a sports superstar.
Both movies reflect our curiosity to explore the dynamics of a relationship that many only see glimpses of. While the full story may unfold with Swift’s next album, for now, fans will have to rely on Lifetime (and maybe Hallmark) to create a narrative that fills in the spaces we want to know more about.
Here’s what you need to know about these films.
‘Christmas in the Spotlight’: The Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce Inspiration
While this movie draws inspiration from Kelce and Swift, it doesn’t directly mirror their relationship. The plot revolves around the love story of a pop star named Bowyn Sykes and a wide receiver, Drew “Gonzo” Gonville, for the fictional Bay Spring Bombers. It’s worth noting that Kelce is a tight end, not a wide receiver.
The film includes several references to Swift’s lyrics, and its storyline clearly alludes to the real-life romance capturing the hearts of football fans and Swifties alike.
In response to initial criticism of the film’s concept, Eirene Tran Donohue, who portrays Sykes, told YSL News, “This film is just a Christmas romcom. I think Swifties will appreciate it, knowing it was made with love and isn’t meant to be exploitative.”
How to watch: This movie has already premiered and is now available on streaming platforms that feature Lifetime, including DirecTV Stream and Philo.
Donna Kelce’s ‘Holiday Touchdown’ on Hallmark
This film tells the tale of a superfan of the Chiefs who falls for the director of fan engagement for the team. While it seeks to connect to the popular Tay-vis narrative that has skyrocketed the Chiefs into pop culture stardom, the movie doesn’t include any references to their romance.
When asked on “The Today Show” if Swift would watch the film, Donna Kelce responded, “I don’t know, that’s a good question.”
How to watch: “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” will premiere at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) on November 30, 2024, on The Hallmark Channel.
What Taylor and Travis Are Really Up To
The real Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are focusing on their respective careers as a pop star and football player.
Kelce and the Chiefs have an afternoon game today against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs, last season’s Super Bowl champions, have started this season strong with a 10-1 record.
Swift attended the game, spotted alongside Donna Kelce, both dressed in red and black. She has recently completed a set of shows in Toronto for her Eras Tour, which is nearing its conclusion in early December.
