Tributes Pour In as Bob Bryar, Ex-My Chemical Romance Drummer, Passes Away at 44

Bob Bryar, ex-drummer of My Chemical Romance, passes away at 44

Bob Bryar, the former drummer for the popular rock band My Chemical Romance, has passed away at the age of 44.

His passing was officially confirmed through a statement issued by the band to CNN and NBC News. No details regarding the cause of his death were provided.

The statement expressed, “The band requests your understanding as they cope with the news of Bob’s passing.”

YSL News has contacted representatives of My Chemical Romance for more information.

Bryar joined My Chemical Romance as their drummer after Matt Pelissier, following the release of their debut album “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” in 2004. He later contributed to the band’s renowned 2006 album “The Black Parade.”

In 2007, Bryar revealed that he was experiencing wrist issues, which resulted in the cancellation of a scheduled performance.

“I have consulted many doctors to find relief so I wouldn’t have to stop performing,” he detailed on Myspace. “I guess I overexerted myself this time. During our show at Maxwell’s, I developed a lump in my wrist the size of a golf ball, which caused both pain and loss of feeling in my fingers.”

Bryar departed from My Chemical Romance in 2010, the same year the band released their album “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.”

When Bryar left, guitarist Frank Iero mentioned that it was a “difficult decision for everyone involved,” and affirmed, “We wish him success in whatever he chooses next, and we hope you all will support him as well.” Bryar was the band’s longest-serving drummer.

Bryar later transitioned into real estate, and in 2021, he announced that he was “officially saying goodbye to my drumming days,” according to Loudwire. Prior to joining My Chemical Romance, he was a sound engineer and tour manager.

“I left a solid touring position where I was managing tours and handling sound,” he shared in a 2016 interview with Alternative Press. “I was thrilled to receive the offer. Even before recording ‘Welcome To The Black Parade,’ I sensed that (My Chemical Romance) was exceptional, and I wanted to be part of that evolution and play alongside them every night.”

My Chemical Romance disbanded in 2013 but reunited in 2019. Last month, the band announced a tour for 2025 to celebrate the performance of “The Black Parade.”
