WASHINGTON — Donald Trump will embark on his first international visit since being elected President of the United States, heading to Paris this Saturday for the ceremonial reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

The iconic cathedral has been closed for public access since a devastating fire in 2019 caused significant damage. Following five years of extensive restoration work, it will reopen this weekend with invitation-only events. Trump is expected to participate in one of these events on December 7.

Trump made the announcement regarding his visit through a social media post on Monday evening. The details about whether he would meet with French President Emmanuel Macron during his stay in Paris have yet to be confirmed.

“I am excited to share that I will be traveling to Paris, France, on Saturday to attend the reopening of the Magnificent and Historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been beautifully restored after a tragic fire five years ago,” he shared. “President Emmanuel Macron has done an incredible job in bringing Notre Dame back to its original glory, and even beyond that. This day will be very special for everyone!”

France has always been one of Trump’s favorite destinations during his presidency, having visited the country four times for various significant events, including Bastille Day, Armistice Day, and D-Day commemorations, as well as attending a Group of Seven Summit in France.
