Baker Mayfield Comments on Michigan-Ohio State Flag Planting: ‘Just Let the Boys Play’

After Michigan defeated Ohio State, their players made headlines by trying to plant a Wolverines flag at the center of Ohio Stadium.

This wasn’t an isolated incident; other teams also attempted similar displays that day, including Florida at Florida State and Arizona State at Arizona’s arena.

The events sparked comments from Baker Mayfield, quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He notably started this trend back in 2017 when he planted an Oklahoma flag at Ohio Stadium after a game.

Mayfield remarked, “OU-Texas does it every year. It’s not a big deal. You just take the loss and move forward. That’s all I’ll say.”

He further expressed:

“Rivalries are a big part of college football. It’s like the Big 12 trying to stop the ‘Horns Down’ sign. Just let the players compete.”

Both Ohio State and Michigan faced fines of $100,000 from the Big Ten due to the flag planting incident, which led to confrontations among players after Ohio State’s unexpected 13-10 loss.
