Queen Camilla to miss parts of Qatar state visit event due to chest infection
Queen Camilla will be absent from a forthcoming diplomatic event in the U.K. due to her health issues.
The 77-year-old queen consort will not take part in some of the ceremonial activities marking the state visit of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday. This decision follows “long-lasting effects” of a recent chest infection, which has resulted in her having “reduced energy levels,” according to reports from People.
Nonetheless, Camilla plans to attend a lunch at Buckingham Palace after the ceremony and be present at the state banquet later during the visit. She will also participate in photographs, take a short rest during the receiving line, and will be there for the farewell on Wednesday.
Initially, Camilla was expected to welcome the emir along with King Charles III at the Horse Guards Parade, followed by a carriage procession. Prince William and Princess Kate are anticipated to greet the emir before the parade.
The emir’s two-day visit to the U.K. coincides with the new Labour government, which has been in power since July, seeking partners to help finance infrastructure projects, including sustainable energy initiatives.
Camilla’s withdrawal on Tuesday occurs almost a month after she was compelled to cancel her scheduled activities due to a chest infection.
A spokesperson for the palace mentioned on November 5, “Her Majesty The Queen is unwell with a chest infection, and her doctors have recommended a brief period of rest.” No additional information regarding her condition was disclosed.
Camilla appeared to be on the mend the following week, as she held a reception at Clarence House on November 12 to honor the authors and works shortlisted for the 2024 Booker Prize.
