A Mother’s Stand: Diddy’s Defense in the Face of Legal Struggles

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ mother speaks up for him during legal issues: ‘A public lynching of my son’

Janice Smalls Combs, the mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs, has publicly defended her son amidst growing legal challenges.

In a heartfelt statement released by Combs’ lawyer, Natlie G. Figgers, on Sunday, Janice expressed her devastation and sadness regarding the allegations against her son.

Sean Combs faces a number of civil lawsuits claiming sexual abuse, including a settlement with former girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. He was arrested in Manhattan on September 16 and charged with racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution. This arrest followed a raid on Diddy’s properties in Los Angeles and Miami by Homeland Security Investigations, which was part of a sex trafficking probe.

“It breaks my heart to see my son attacked not for the truth, but for a narrative filled with falsehoods,” Combs stated on Instagram. “Witnessing what resembles a public lynching of my son, before he’s even had the chance to establish his innocence, is a pain too heavy to articulate.”

“Just like anyone else, my son deserves a fair trial, a chance to express his side, and to prove that he is innocent.”

Although a $50 million bail was suggested, Sean Combs is being held at the Special Housing Unit in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center until his trial, a decision his legal team is contesting in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

The founder of Bad Boy Records has denied all the allegations against him but issued a public apology in May following the emergence of video footage depicting an altercation with Ventura at a hotel in Los Angeles in 2016.

In her statement on Sunday, Combs spoke about her son’s settlement with Ventura in November 2023 and the earlier reported physical abuse.

“While my son may not have been completely honest about certain aspects—such as denying any violence towards an ex-girlfriend despite hotel footage showing otherwise—there are times when the truth and a lie are so interconnected that admitting any part of the story can be frightening, especially if that truth goes against the norm or seems too complicated,” she remarked.

She added, “This might explain why my son’s legal team chose to settle the lawsuit with his ex instead of fighting it to the end, which later allowed the federal government to misconstrue this decision as an admission of guilt.”

At the time of settlement, Diddy’s attorney Ben Brafman stated to YSL News: “Mr. Combs’ choice to settle the lawsuit does not diminish his unequivocal denial of the claims.” However, during his May apology, Diddy expressed being “disgusted” by his past actions during the 2016 incident with Ventura at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles.

“I am not trying to argue that my son is flawless—he has made mistakes, just like all of us,” Combs stated.

More sexual abuse claims emerged after Sean Combs’ arrest. A woman alleged that Diddy and a former bodyguard “brutally raped” her in 2001 in a complaint filed on September 24. Another woman filed a lawsuit on September 27, claiming she was drugged and impregnated during four years of abuse.

A Texas-based lawyer, Tony Buzbee, announced multiple upcoming civil lawsuits against the music mogul this month, representing 120 individuals who intend to accuse him of offenses including “violent sexual assault or rape,” “facilitated sex with a controlled substance,” “dissemination of video recordings,” and “sexual abuse of minors.”

In her defense of her son, Combs emphasized that “not being fully honest about one issue does not imply my son is guilty of the horrible accusations and serious charges brought against him.”

“The falsehoods being hurled at him come from individuals looking for financial gain rather than justice,” Combs stated. “These people noticed how swiftly my son’s legal team settled his ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit and now believe they can make a quick profit by wrongfully accusing him.”

She continued, “The most painful part of this situation is witnessing my beloved son have his dignity stripped away, not for his actions, but for the beliefs others choose to hold about him.”

Sean Combs’ next court hearing is set for October 10.

“My son is not the monster they portray him as; he deserves the opportunity to share his side of the story,” Combs concluded. “I can only hope that I live to see that day.”

It’s inspiring to watch him express his truth and receive the recognition he deserves.
