Adele Dotes on Meryl Streep at Vegas Show, Celebrates ‘Death Becomes Her’
The British singer, portraying Madeline Ashton from “Death Becomes Her,” was thrilled to see the Oscar-winning actress in the crowd.
Adele proves she belongs on the big screen.
During her performance at the Weekends with Adele concert in Las Vegas on Saturday night, the British singer was overjoyed to spot actress Meryl Streep in the audience, as captured in fan-shared videos online.
Adele dazzled in a long-sleeved silver dress that closely resembled the outfit worn by Streep’s character, Madeline Ashton, in the 1992 dark comedy “Death Becomes Her.” She complemented her glamorous look with pearl earrings and a silver necklace.
In the video, the Grammy-winning artist is seen singing her 2015 hit “When We Were Young” when she suddenly notices Streep. Adele curtsied and greeted her before crossing the venue to give the Oscar-winning star a warm hug.
“I love you,” Adele exclaimed, and Streep responded by blowing a kiss as the singer made her way through the crowd at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace.
“Death Becomes Her” featured Streep alongside Goldie Hawn in a darkly comedic story about two rivals, Ashton and Helen Sharp (Hawn), who are both lured by the promise of eternal youth through a magical potion. The film was a box office success, earning $58.4 million.
Adele isn’t the only celebrity to pay tribute to Streep’s beloved film; Sabrina Carpenter also referenced “Death Becomes Her” in the music video for her song “Taste,” featuring “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega.
Notably, this delightful encounter with Streep happened after Adele had an emotional reunion with pop icon Celine Dion.
Adele and Celine Dion Share Tears and Hugs at Vegas Show
At her concert last Saturday, Adele spotted Celine Dion sitting quietly in a box near the soundboard, a moment captured in a video shared by @sophxadelexf1 on X. Both singers were visibly emotional as they embraced, held hands, and shared words of affection. At one moment, Dion gently cradled Adele’s face and kissed her hand, whispering a few words before parting.
The two stars looked stunning for their emotional meeting in the venue originally designed for Dion’s 2003 A New Day residency. Adele wore an elegant black gown with a portrait neckline, adorned with sparkling black details, while Dion impressed in a chic black gown featuring asymmetrical shoulders, a striking choker necklace, and her hair styled up.
“Give it up for Miss Celine Dion!” Adele called out tearfully to the crowd as she returned to the stage, while Dion waved goodbye before quietly returning to her seat, wiping her tears with tissues and being comforted by her twin sons, Nelson and Eddy Angélil, who are 14 years old. The audience erupted in cheers and applause, with fans heard exclaiming, “Oh, my God!” as the touching moment unfolded.
Adele’s last Weekends with Adele performance is set for November 23, after which she plans to take an “incredibly long hiatus.” In August, she informed her fans during a concert in Munich that she intends to take a break to focus on her personal life, having spent the past seven years reshaping her life.
