Ali Wong is talking about how her relationship with Bill Hader began.

The comedian and star of “Beef” shared details of her romance with Hader during her Netflix stand-up special “Ali Wong: Single Lady,” which was released on Tuesday.

Wong and Hader have reportedly been in a committed relationship since April 2023, following a brief romance in the fall of 2022, as stated by People and Entertainment Tonight. This new chapter comes after Wong’s divorce from Justin Hakuta in 2022.

“For a long time, I was just thinking about casual relationships,” Wong humorously reflected on her dating life after her divorce. “Finding someone who is not only talented, funny, and meaningful to me, but also someone I admire as an artist and would feel proud to introduce to my children and friends, seemed impossible.”

Wong mentioned that the extensive media focus on her divorce initially made her feel “embarrassed and ashamed,” but eventually became a “Bat-Signal” that informed interested men that she was single again.

It turns out that Hader was among these interested men.

She recalled a phone call from an acquaintance: “‘Hey, Ali. I just found out about your divorce, and I can’t help but feel excited. I have had a crush on you for years and even told my best friend that you were my dream girl. I realize this may sound crazy, but I would like you to be my girlfriend.’

After Hader’s heartfelt proposal, Wong traveled to Europe. When she arrived in London, she received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Hader.

Hader continued his floral surprise during Wong’s visits to Amsterdam and Cologne, Germany, with the bouquets becoming more impressive each time. By the time she reached her last destination, Copenhagen, Denmark, Wong had received “six enormous flower arrangements” from him.

“I told my girlfriends about it, and they were in awe, saying, ‘That is so romantic. I am so jealous.'” Meanwhile, my guy friends reacted by saying, ‘That guy sounds like a psychopath.’ It illustrates how low the bar has become for men these days; any romantic gesture is seen as a sign of mental instability,” Wong quipped.

Ultimately, Hader’s romantic endeavors captured Wong’s heart.

“I genuinely fell in love again,” Wong concluded. “Many of you may know who this guy is—he’s the one who sent me all those flowers in Europe.”
