Alicia Keys Honors Diversity with Dr. Dre Global Impact Award: ‘DEI is a Benefit’

Alicia Keys is truly one of a kind — and the Grammys are recognizing her talent and impact.

On Sunday, at the 67th annual Grammy Awards, the celebrated singer-songwriter and producer was presented with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. Keys took this opportunity to highlight the importance of diverse representation in the music industry.

“This is not the moment to silence diverse voices,” Keys remarked. “We have witnessed talented and dedicated individuals from various backgrounds sharing their unique perspectives on this stage, and it truly transforms the industry. DEI is not a threat; it’s a blessing.”

During her acceptance speech, the artist also extended a sincere tribute to women music producers. Keys has been the co-producer of all nine of her studio albums, which include the Grammy-winning “Songs in A Minor,” “The Diary of Alicia Keys,” and “Girl on Fire.” She has received a total of 17 Grammy awards.

“I always had to advocate for a certain level of respect in my roles as a songwriter, composer, and especially as a producer,” Keys commented. “It’s odd that we don’t commonly think of women in the same light as producers like Quincy or Dre or (Swizz Beats). Yet, female producers have historically driven the industry: Patrice Rushen, Missy Elliott, Linda Perry, Grimes, Solange (Knowles), and many others.”

She continued: “We stand united, so it’s incredibly fulfilling to be recognized for something I always felt was overlooked.”

Additionally, Keys’ Broadway musical, “Hell’s Kitchen,” received accolades at the event, winning the award for best musical theater album.
