Amazon is discontinuing its ‘Try Before You Buy’ option: Key details
Amazon will no longer offer its “Try Before You Buy” service.
The well-known retail company is eliminating this feature, which previously allowed Prime members to try on certain clothing items, footwear, and accessories in the comfort of their homes before making a purchase.
An Amazon representative shared with YSL News on Tuesday that the decision was influenced by the service’s limited availability and the growing adoption of AI-driven recommendations on their shopping platform.
“Due to the fact that Try Before You Buy has only expanded to a few items, and because customers are increasingly using our new AI-driven tools such as virtual try-on, tailored size suggestions, review summaries, and enhanced size charts to find the best fit, we will be discontinuing the Try Before You Buy option effective January 31, 2025,” the spokesperson indicated.
To tackle size and fit issues and enhance the customer experience, Amazon has introduced four innovative AI-powered features.
The spokesperson mentioned that retiring this purchasing option will allow Amazon to offer customers “a streamlined, simplified experience with a broader range of products and quicker delivery times,” in contrast to the limited choices and prolonged delivery periods associated with “Try Before You Buy,” according to customer insights.
What is Amazon Prime’s ‘Try Before You Buy’ service?
Launched in 2018, Prime’s “Try Before You Buy” service enabled customers to order up to six clothing items on a trial basis. Customers had seven days after receiving their orders to return any items they didn’t want without incurring any charges.
Amazon confirmed that the final day to use this benefit is January 31, and customers can take advantage of the service until then.
Amazon will maintain ‘convenient returns’
Even though Amazon is discontinuing the “Try Before You Buy” service, the company, based in Seattle, will continue to provide “easy, hassle-free returns,” which can be made at Amazon locations, including Whole Foods, in addition to local retailers like Staples, Kohl’s, and The UPS Store.
“Customers will still benefit from fast, free shipping along with straightforward, no-cost returns for our entire apparel range,” the statement emphasized.
