Andra Day and Colman Domingo to Lead an Unforgettable Gordon Parks Foundation Gala

Andra Day and Colman Domingo Set to Star at the Gordon Parks Foundation Gala

This year’s Gordon Parks Foundation gala promises to be another glamorous occasion.

The foundation’s yearly awards dinner and auction brings together leaders from the worlds of art, music, film, fashion, and philanthropy. This year, Grammy Award winner Andra Day will perform, while Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo will present an award to top Vogue editor Anna Wintour, as revealed exclusively by YSL News.

The 2025 gala, which pays tribute to the influential artist and photographer Gordon Parks, will also honor groundbreaking model and activist Bethann Hardison, contemporary artist Rashid Johnson, and political figure Ambassador Andrew Young, in addition to Wintour.

The event, scheduled for May 20 in New York City, will feature several other presenters, including model and actor Tyson Beckford, fashion designer Aurora James, conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas, and activist and photographer Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe.

Wintour and Domingo have recently achieved significant career milestones; Wintour was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by former President Joe Biden this month, and Domingo received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his impactful performance in “Sing Sing.”

Andra Day showcased her incredible singing talent during the Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, where she performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

The list of stars doesn’t stop with the presenters and performers; this year’s gala co-chairs include music icons and renowned art collectors Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, filmmaker Spike Lee and his wife Tonya, “Severance” director Ben Stiller with wife Christine Taylor, and Anderson Cooper alongside Huma Abedin, among others.

“The Gordon Parks Foundation Gala feels like a homecoming for us. Each year brings its unique excitement, but the constant presence of creative, like-minded individuals coming together to honor Gordon is a tribute to his enduring legacy,” stated Peter W. Kunhardt, Jr., the foundation’s executive director, in an exclusive comment to YSL News.

“Gordon was a pioneer for social justice. Through his photography, writing, and actions, he conveyed powerful truths. He revealed the realities of poverty and racism with the aim of raising awareness and assisting others. At the core of the Foundation’s mission are Gordon’s own words,” Kunhardt continued. “He described his work as ‘Our common search for a better life and a better world.’ His camera acted as his tool to combat racism and poverty. He understood that art could serve as a formidable force, more impactful than violence, and through words and images, he aimed to enlighten us.”

Funds raised during the event, which exceeded $2 million last year, will back scholarships, awards, fellowships, and educational programs throughout the year.

The foundation has “awarded nearly 200 scholarships to students nationwide, created a fellowship program that supports artists and writers annually, organized hundreds of exhibitions, published over 20 books, initiated an annual book prize, and recently launched a fund to help acquire artwork from senior artists who have often been overlooked,” as mentioned by Kunhardt.
