Angel Reese of Sky Achieves 20 Rebounds for Second Game in a Row, Joins Shaquille O’Neal in History

Angel Reese continues to showcase her remarkable skills on the boards.

In a game on Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena, Reese scored 13 points and grabbed 20 rebounds despite the Chicago Sky’s 82-80 defeat to the Connecticut Sun. This achievement marks her second consecutive game with more than 20 rebounds, making her the first player in both the WNBA and NBA to reach this feat in back-to-back games since Shaquille O’Neal, another LSU alum, did so in April 1993.

Friday’s matchup was Reese’s 21st double-double of the season, occurring in just her 28th game in the WNBA. She has been averaging a double-double this season with 13.6 points and leading the league with 12.6 rebounds, also ranking first in offensive rebounds per game at 5.1.

Marina Mabrey, who began the season with the Sky but was traded to the Sun just before the 2024 WNBA All-Star break, scored a game-high 24 points (9-13 FG, 5-7 3PT) in her first appearance against her old team.

Despite a challenging shooting night where Reese went 3-of-12 from the field, she managed to generate opportunities at the line, sinking 7 of 8 free throws.

In the following game on Sunday, Reese recorded 19 points and 20 rebounds in an 86-68 loss to the Phoenix Mercury. This performance further solidified her status as she became the fastest player in WNBA history to achieve 20 double-doubles in a single season.
