Anthony Richardson injury update: Colts quarterback sidelined with potential hip pointer injury
The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Anthony Richardson, has been ruled out for the remainder of the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.
Richardson sustained an injury after a hard hit in the red zone just before the end of the first quarter, leading him to grasp his left hip. He briefly left the game but returned for one play before being hit again during a quarterback run, struggling to get back on his feet. This prompted him to head to the locker room after taking a second significant hit.
Initially, the Colts marked Richardson as questionable due to a hip injury. However, with just 10 minutes remaining in the first half, they officially ruled him out for the game.
Unfortunately, Richardson has not had much luck with injuries early in his NFL career. In his rookie season in 2023, he suffered a concussion in Week 2, followed by a season-ending AC joint sprain in Week 5.
Here’s the latest news regarding the Colts’ quarterback:
Anthony Richardson injury update
During the first quarter against the Steelers, Richardson had to leave the game after taking a hit on a quarterback run. This occurred just two plays after he had briefly exited the game due to an earlier hit that caused him to clutch his hip.
The Colts confirmed Richardson is out for the rest of the game with 10 minutes left in the first half.
The Colts believe Richardson may have sustained a “hip pointer” during the 27-24 win over the Steelers. This type of injury is defined as “a bruise near the top curve of the hip bone,” according to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
According to UPMC, the typical treatments for this injury involve rest, ice, and compression.
There is optimism within the Colts organization that Richardson will not miss much, if any, playing time due to this hip pointer injury, as reported by NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. He will be evaluated throughout the week.
