iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, AirPods: What to Expect from Apple’s 2024 Event on Monday
This Monday, Apple will introduce its newest iPhone lineup along with various product updates during its Apple Event.
With the theme “It’s Glowtime,” this September event is expected to focus on significant upgrades to Apple’s flagship smartphone, including enhancements for artificial intelligence and camera features.
Additionally, insiders speculate that the Apple Watch and AirPods will also get some much-anticipated upgrades.
The event starts at 1 p.m. EDT/10 a.m. PDT on Monday, and it will be available for live streaming on Apple’s official site and their YouTube channel.
Here’s a sneak peek at what might be revealed at Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event:
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
The key announcement expected from Apple is the introduction of the iPhone 16 series.
The iPhone 16 is rumored to feature a new A18 chip combined with 8GB of RAM, designed to enhance support for Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI platform.
According to 9to5Mac, the new chip is specifically crafted to enable on-device AI functionalities.
These new models might also introduce an action button that will replace the iPhone 15’s mute toggle, which was previously available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, according to MacRumors.
The camera setup is likely to shift from a diagonal arrangement on the iPhone 15 to a vertical one, similar to last year’s Pro models, with this change reportedly aimed at enhancing spatial video recording capabilities.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned on social media platform X that colors for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will likely include black, green, pink, blue, and white.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
The higher-end versions of the iPhone are expected to feature larger screens and improvements to address the overheating issues seen in predecessors.
MacRumors has reported that the display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will increase by 0.2 inches compared to the iPhone 15, measuring 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively. The new models are also predicted to be slightly bigger than their predecessors.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro may gain a 5x optical zoom tetraprism camera, previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and could be capable of recording 4K video at 120fps for the first time.
Furthermore, a new “capture button” intended to quickly access the camera could be introduced; 9to5Mac suggests it might be common across all models, while MacRumors indicates it could be limited to the Pro and Pro Max versions.
A leaked image from Apple expert Kotusami Ito shared on X last November showed a prototype of a battery case intended for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, designed to alleviate previous overheating concerns. This case reportedly will utilize a metallic covering instead of the tin used previously.
Kuo also forecasts that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be released in black, white or silver, gray, and rose color options.
AirPods 4
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a revamp of its wireless earbud lineup, which is expected to be announced on Monday. 9to5Mac notes that this could lead to the discontinuation of the AirPods 2 and 3, consolidating all models under the new AirPods 4 branding.
The base model AirPods are anticipated not to feature noise cancellation, whereas the mid-tier version likely will offer this feature. Notably, any updates to the AirPods Pro line are not expected until 2025.
Apple Watch
All models of the Apple Watch are anticipated to receive upgrades this Monday.
Series 10
The upcoming announcement of the Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to mark significant changes, including larger case sizes at 45 mm and 49 mm, along with bigger screens, based on insights from 9to5Mac.
SE
Gurman reported that the latest Apple Watch SE could transition from an aluminum shell to one made from “rigid plastic.” In 2022, Apple had already shifted the smartwatch’s caseback from ceramic to a nylon composite material.
Ultra 3
Information about the Ultra 3 model is limited, but 9to5Mac indicated that it may receive a new chip, although no major hardware updates are expected.
YSL News previously mentioned that the event will likely unveil the release timeline for iOS 18.
This operating system was announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, where Apple showcased its integration with Apple Intelligence.
