Ariana Grande fans outraged by ‘disrespectful’ question on Golden Globes red carpet
Ariana Grande is handling the situation gracefully.
The pop star’s fans expressed their anger after a reporter on the Golden Globes red carpet inquired whether her grandmother was “still alive.”
In a social media clip, the Access Hollywood journalist asks Grande whom she called first upon learning of her Golden Globe nomination. The “Wicked” actress mentions her mom, Joan Grande, before the reporter follows up with, “is your grandmother still alive?” Grande remains composed and mentions that her “Nonna,” who is 99 years old, is indeed alive and was the second person she reached out to.
The Access Hollywood footage omits the specific question but shows Grande elaborating that her “Wicked” co-star Cynthia Erivo and her acting coach were next on her list of calls.
Fans reacted strongly online, with one person commenting on X: “THIS IS SICK?” and questioning the reasoning behind the question. Others observed, “that’s such a dangerous question, why would she even ask that?” A user on X even remarked: “What happened to just asking ‘how’s your grandma?'”
In a more humorous moment on the red carpet, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Grande and her mom, who made a playful comment about wanting to meet Harrison Ford at the event.
“That was my goal,” Joan Grande shared with ET. “We’ve done nearly everything else except meet Harrison Ford. And I don’t mean we actually did it, but you know what I mean.” This comment clearly took her daughter by surprise.
Grande, now with a new hair color, was among several celebrities who brought their parents to Sunday’s award show. Notably, Margaret Qualley attended with her father Paul Qualley instead of her husband Jack Antonoff. Grande was nominated for best supporting actress at the 2025 Golden Globes but ultimately lost to Zoe Saldaña for her performance in “Emilia Pérez.”
