Barney Returns to Max: Discover What’s New with the Beloved Dinosaur in the Reboot
Barney is back and this time as a vibrant animated character!
The cherished purple-and-green dinosaur known for his tidiness is returning to our screens after a 14-year hiatus in the new series “Barney’s World,” which will air on Max and Cartoon Network, as announced by Warner Bros. Discovery and Mattel on Wednesday.
Viewers can catch the CGI-animated series premiering on Oct. 14 on Max and on Oct. 18 on Cartoon Network. Additionally, kids with iPads can look forward to its launch on YouTube, starting in certain countries on Oct. 11.
The show will include modern renditions of classic Barney songs, such as the beloved “I Love You,” along with some new original pieces.
Returning to the show are Baby Bop and BJ, who is now named Billy. The series will also introduce three new kid characters: David, Mel, and Vivie.
“In this action-packed and musical adventure, Barney aids the children and the audience in experiencing significant preschool emotions, teaching them about self-love, caring for others, and community,” a press release states. “While designed for preschoolers, Barney’s World will evoke nostalgia for viewers of all ages, allowing today’s parents—who grew up watching Barney—to share precious moments with their own children in this fresh interpretation of a cherished classic.”
Bob West, the original voice of Barney, will be succeeded by Jonathan Langdon, known for his role in “Zombies,” as the animated T-Rex. Additional voice talents include Bryn McAuley, Jonathan Tan, Jayd Deroché, and Diana Tsoy.
Barney first appeared in “Barney & the Backyard Gang” in 1988, followed by “Barney & Friends” in 1992, quickly gaining global popularity. The show aired for 14 seasons on PBS, concluding in 2010.
A revival was announced in 2015 with plans for release in 2017, but it ultimately did not materialize.
