Unlocking the Secrets of Silkworm Moths: A Leap Forward in Robotic Odor Detection

Researchers explore how the domesticated flightless silkworm moth (Bombyx mori), a prominent insect model in olfactory research, uses wing flapping to manipulate airflow, enhancing their ability to detect distant pheromones. These findings highlight how moths guide pheromones to their odor sensors in antennae, and suggest potential applications for designing advanced robotic systems for odor source

Bath & Body Works Candle Pulled from Shelves After Controversial Resemblance Sparks Outrage

Bath & Body Works pulls candle from shelves over KKK resemblance; now listed on eBay

A candle previously sold by Bath & Body Works has surfaced on eBay after the retailer stopped its sale due to complaints that its snowflake label looked like Ku Klux Klan hoods.

The retailer recently issued an apology for the Snowed In three-wick candle, which was part of its holiday collection.

The controversy arose after users online noted that the candle’s design, intended to represent a folded snowflake cutout, appeared similar to the white hoods worn by the white supremacist group. Some creative commenters dubbed it the “Klandle” and “KKKandle” due to the way the label was designed.

The company expressed regret, as reported by TMZ and later by other media including YSL News, announcing they were “quickly working on removing this item and reviewing our processes moving forward.”

Even though the Snowed In candle has been withdrawn from the market, some orders placed online were processed, as it is now appearing on eBay and other resale platforms, with many listings priced considerably above the original retail price of around $25 for their three-wick candles.

Snowed In candle listings reaching exorbitant prices

For instance, one listing on eBay is asking for $375 or best offer, claiming that “Both labels are in excellent condition!” Meanwhile, two other auctions are seeking $255, mentioning the candle’s scent of vanilla and creamy buttermint.

On Facebook Marketplace, a listing offers the candle for $25 but states, “This candle does not have the original ‘offensive’ label as seen in this ad. It only features the label on the bottom. These items won’t be available in stores again, so grab them while you can! I have plenty if you’re interested in buying in bulk.”

Public reaction to the candle controversy

“Did no one on their team think this looked ‘off’ or something? 😭” one Instagram user commented.

Others were more lenient towards the candle company, with one user stating, “I was confused about the design until I realized it… oh wow. I don’t think it was meant that way, but they definitely need to reconsider it, so it’s best to remove it.”
