Victoria and David Beckham make unexpected visit at Buckingham Palace banquet
Victoria and David Beckham enjoyed a royal evening in London, participating in the UK’s diplomatic events at Buckingham Palace.
On Tuesday evening, the couple made what was described as a surprise appearance at a state banquet honoring Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani of Qatar and his wife Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, taking place at the royal residence of the King and Queen.
According to The Telegraph, this marked the former UK soccer player’s debut at a state banquet. The Beckhams have enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the British royal family, both holding the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire. YSL News has reached out to David Beckham’s representatives for further comments.
Earlier in October, David Beckham was seen with Prince William celebrating successful fundraising for the London Air Ambulance Charity.
The Qatari emir and his wife landed in London on Monday, invited by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, with their visit concluding on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Prince William and Princess Kate welcomed the emir and Sheikha Jawaher, escorting them to Horse Guards Parade, where the king extended a ceremonial reception.
Subsequently, the royal family, along with their guests, participated in a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace, followed by a private lunch with Queen Camilla, who was unable to attend the outdoor events as she recovering from a chest infection.
Both Camilla and Princess Kate, age 42, missed parts of the celebrations. Kate, the Princess of Wales, has slowly resumed royal engagements after her chemotherapy treatment concluded in September. Meanwhile, 77-year-old Camilla reportedly attended the banquet but has reduced her public appearances following her health issues.
King Charles, 76, is also facing health challenges, although specifics regarding his cancer diagnosis have not been disclosed.
During the grand state banquet attended by various politicians and celebrities, Charles expressed gratitude to the emir for Qatar’s role in facilitating a ceasefire in Gaza and aiding in hostage release discussions.
“Qatar’s persistent efforts and diplomatic contributions are truly unparalleled,” Charles stated.
Some organizations, including Human Rights Watch, have criticized the emir’s visit to the UK, highlighting concerns about the treatment of women and LGBTQ+ individuals in Qatar. Yasmine Ahmed, the UK director for the organization, stated, “The king rolls out the red carpet for the emir of Qatar while the country still enforces male guardianship laws and other discriminatory policies against women.”
According to the official royal family website, state visits occur biannually to strengthen connections with foreign nations during the early summer and winter months. The emir also addressed both houses of the Parliament during his visit.
