Biden and Trump respond to fatal NYE incident in New Orleans

President Joe Biden and incoming President Donald Trump offered their condolences to the victims and their families following a shocking incident where an armed driver sped a truck into a group of New Year’s celebrators in New Orleans early on January 1st.

The statements from both leaders addressed the tragic events that led to the deaths of at least 10 individuals and injuries to 35 more in the French Quarter, with the FBI treating it as a potential act of terrorism.

In a post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed his sorrow: “Our thoughts are with all innocent victims and their families, along with the courageous officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump Administration will back the City of New Orleans completely as they investigate and recover from this despicable act!”

He also spoke about the crime rates in the United States.

Trump added, “When I pointed out that the criminals entering our country pose a greater threat than those already here, many Democrats and the mainstream media dismissed my comments. Sadly, it has proven to be correct. The crime rates in our nation have reached unprecedented levels.”

Biden, on the other hand, stated that he is being regularly updated by the top officials from federal law enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security, highlighting that the incident is being treated as an “act of terrorism.”

“I appreciate the swift and courageous actions of local law enforcement, which helped to prevent further fatalities and injuries,” Biden asserted. “I’ve instructed my team to provide all necessary resources as federal, state, and local authorities work diligently to uncover the facts and ensure there is no ongoing danger.”

Biden also pledged to provide more information as it becomes available. “My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were just trying to enjoy the holiday,” he mentioned. “Violence is never acceptable, and we cannot allow any attacks on our communities.”

This incident, located in the vibrant French Quarter renowned for its nightlife, marks at least the fourth specific case of mass fatalities resulting from a vehicle attack in the past ten years, according to data from the Associated Press/YSL News/Northeastern University Mass Killing Database.

As of now, law enforcement has not disclosed the identity of the driver, who police confirmed was shot dead by responding officers.
