Biden announces an additional $4.28 billion in U.S. student loan forgiveness
On December 20, 2024 (Reuters) – The Biden administration has announced the cancellation of another $4.28 billion in student loans for close to 55,000 public service employees, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Education.
With this recent action, the total amount of student debt forgiven for public service workers now stands at approximately $78 billion for nearly 1.1 million individuals, as reported by the department.
Additionally, the White House stated that nearly 5 million people have now been approved for student loan relief under President Joe Biden’s administration.
This initiative is part of President Biden’s commitment made during his 2020 campaign to provide debt relief to millions of Americans before the end of his term in January.
