Big Lots is shutting down all stores: Check out the complete list of locations across the US
The nation is getting ready to bid farewell to another major retail chain.
Big Lots has announced its intention to close all stores after months of downsizing and a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in September.
The company is starting “going out of business” sales to “preserve the value of its assets,” as stated in a press release on Thursday. While no specific end date for the sales has been provided, Big Lots guarantees that customers can shop both in-store and online.
CEO Bruce Thorn mentioned that the closures might be reversed if the company successfully finds a buyer. Over 400 stores have already closed their doors in 2024.
“Everyone on our team has worked tirelessly and explored every option to complete a going concern sale. While we remain optimistic about securing an alternative going concern deal, we must begin the GOB process to protect the value of the Big Lots estate,” Thorn said in the statement.

Bankruptcy and store closures at Big Lots
In September, Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection just weeks after declaring its plans to close 340 stores nationwide.
The company stated that the closures were part of a sale arrangement with an affiliate of Nexus Capital Management LP, according to a news release. There was optimism as it announced the approval of the sale of most of its assets and operational business to Nexus.
However, by December, those hopes were shattered when the sale did not materialize.
