Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Seek Legal Restraints Following Video Controversy Involving Justin Baldoni’s Lawyer

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Seek Gag Order on Justin Baldoni’s Lawyer Following Video Release

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are responding strongly to their co-star Justin Baldoni after his legal team shared behind-the-scenes footage from their contentious film, “It Ends with Us.”

In a letter submitted to Judge Lewis J. Liman in the Southern District of New York on Tuesday, the couple’s attorneys accused Baldoni and his legal representatives of perpetuating a “harassing and retaliatory media campaign” against Lively, with frequent press statements and media releases, as per court documents obtained by YSL News.

This legal action follows the release on Tuesday of intimate behind-the-scenes footage featuring Baldoni and Lively from the romantic drama. Lively’s legal team denounced the video’s release in an email to YSL News, calling it a “stunt” meant to reinforce “misleading media narratives.”

Prior to Tuesday’s letter, Lively and Reynolds had already sent a cease-and-desist notice to Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, back in December 2024, asking him to stop making “defamatory and retaliatory comments” about Lively. At the same time, another cease-and-desist was issued to Baldoni and his business associates demanding the end of “all unlawful behavior toward the Lively-Reynolds parties and their associates.”

“Nearly every day since then, Mr. Freedman has participated in television interviews, appeared on podcasts, issued provocative written comments, and leaked information  to the Hollywood press and tabloids,” said Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys on Tuesday.

“The statements not only further the retaliation campaign referenced in Ms. Lively’s initial cease-and-desist notice but also contain numerous new falsehoods about Ms. Lively and others.”

In light of these developments, Lively and Reynolds’ legal team is requesting an “appropriate protective order” to limit Freedman’s non-litigation remarks and is also asking for a hearing to “discuss the proper conduct of legal counsel going forward.”

Lively and Reynolds’ Legal Team Claims Media Releases Will ‘Prejudice’ Ongoing Legal Issues

Among the various media statements made by Freedman, Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys highlighted a nearly 10-minute video of behind-the-scenes footage from “It Ends with Us” that was released on Tuesday.

The clip features their characters, Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) and Lily Bloom (Lively), sharing a slow dance during a moment discussed in Lively’s December complaint against Baldoni, which preceded her federal lawsuit.

To support their claim of an ongoing harassment campaign, the couple’s lawyers also pointed to Freedman’s announcement of plans to create a website related to Baldoni’s federal lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds. This site will reportedly feature “all correspondences and relevant videos that undermine (Lively’s) claims.”

“As Ms. Lively’s legal representatives have repeatedly advised, federal litigation should be managed in the courtroom and in accordance with the relevant ethical guidelines,” noted the attorneys for Lively and Reynolds.

“His actions pose a threat to materially harm both the Lively case and the Wayfarer case by tainting the jury pool. His statements are specifically designed to diminish the ‘character, credibility, and reputation’ of multiple relevant individuals and include ‘information that the lawyer knows or reasonably should know is likely to be inadmissible in court,’ thus creating a significant risk of prejudice for not just Ms. Lively, but for many others involved in these matters.”

YSL News has reached out to Freedman for his comments.

An Overview of the Legal Conflict Involving Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively

Both Lively and Baldoni filed lawsuits on New Year’s Eve that revisit their allegations from their time working together: Lively’s federal suit parallels a complaint in California and is detailed in a viral New York Times article titled “‘We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.”

The “Gossip Girl” star accuses Baldoni of inappropriate sexual behavior in and out of the workplace and of orchestrating a smear campaign against her after she spoke up about his alleged conduct.

In contrast, Baldoni has filed a $250 million lawsuit disputing The New York Times’ reporting on Lively’s allegations, claiming that the article depended on “cherry-picked” and altered communications that lacked necessary context and were misleading.

Baldoni also initiated a $400 million federal lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds on January 16, alleging defamation and extortion.
