Brandon Aiyuk Injury Update: Concerns Over ACL Tear Following Game Against Chiefs

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers had to be taken off the field on a cart during their Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Aiyuk recorded a 15-yard catch in the second quarter when he was tackled by Kansas City’s Trent McDuffie, followed by safety Chamarri Conner, who hit him in the lower body.

The tackle caused Aiyuk’s right knee to bend awkwardly. He remained on the field for a while before medical staff attended to him.

Here’s what we know about Aiyuk’s injury:

Update on Brandon Aiyuk’s Injury

Aiyuk received a low hit to his right leg from Conner after making a catch.

During the Fox broadcast of the game, Aiyuk was seen limping to the blue medical tent, unable to bear weight on his injured leg. Shortly after, he was taken to the locker room on a cart.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Aiyuk indicated that his right knee was hurt while being carted off. The 49ers announced that he would not return to the game less than 20 minutes after the incident.

Post-game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan informed the media that there was a possibility Aiyuk had torn his ACL.

Who Will Replace Brandon Aiyuk on the 49ers’ Roster?

Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel are the primary wide receivers on San Francisco’s depth chart. After Aiyuk’s injury, Samuel also had to exit the game due to illness.

Jauan Jennings, who is also on the depth chart, missed Week 7 due to a hip injury he sustained in the previous week’s game.

Following Aiyuk, Samuel, and Jennings, the next options for the 49ers are Chris Conley, Jacob Cowing, and rookie Ricky Pearsall, who debuted in NFL action on Sunday after recovering from a gunshot wound suffered in late August.

Brandon Aiyuk’s Performance Stats

Prior to his injury, Aiyuk had made two catches totaling 23 yards in the game against the Chiefs.

He began Week 7 with a season total of 23 receptions for 351 yards, without scoring a touchdown.
