New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. Brian Kemp Shifts Support to Trump Amidst Growing Democratic Momentum in Georgia

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp backs Donald Trump, mending their rift as Democrats gain momentum

The ongoing feud between former President Donald Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp seems to have come to an end.

Kemp voiced his support for Trump in a Thursday chat with Sean Hannity on Fox News, to which Trump replied on Truth Social with gratitude for the Governor’s endorsement.

This friendly exchange sharply contrasts with earlier in the month, when Trump publicly mocked Kemp at a rally in Atlanta, referring to him as “Little Brian Kemp.”

The tension between Trump and Kemp traces back to the 2020 presidential election, where Kemp did not assist Trump in his attempts to challenge the election outcome. Their rekindled partnership comes at a time when Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining traction in critical swing states like Georgia.

Kemp shifts from adversary to ally, endorsing Trump

“He’s a bad guy. He’s a disloyal guy and he’s a very average governor,” Trump remarked.

Trump reiterated these criticisms on Truth Social, asserting that Kemp wouldn’t have won his position without Trump’s support.

Kemp addressed Trump’s insults on X, emphasizing, “My focus is on winning this November and protecting our country from Kamala Harris and the Democrats, not engaging in juvenile personal attacks against fellow Republicans or reliving the past. I suggest you do the same, Mr. President, and keep my family out of it.”

However, as the Democrats concluded a four-day party event nominating Harris, Kemp publicly endorsed Trump.

“We must succeed from the top of the ticket downwards,” Kemp remarked, urging his supporters to participate. “I’ve consistently voiced that we cannot withstand another four years of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and I believe Kamala Harris and Tim Walz would be even worse. Thus, we need to reinstall Donald Trump back in the White House.”

“Thank you to #BrianKempGA for all your support and assistance in Georgia, where a victory is vital for our Party’s success and, most importantly, our Country,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “I eagerly anticipate collaborating with you, your team, and all my friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump narrowly lost Georgia, as Harris gains ground

After securing Georgia in 2016 by a margin exceeding 5 percentage points, Trump lost the state in 2020 by fewer than 12,000 votes, or a mere 0.2%.

In December 2020, Trump pushed Kemp to pressure the state legislature into overturning Joe Biden’s victory, but Kemp declined. Additionally, Trump is a co-defendant in a Georgia election racketeering case alongside 18 other individuals.

Meanwhile, Harris’ popularity in national polling has been increasing since she took over as the Democrats’ leading candidate from Biden.

As of Friday, a FiveThirtyEight national polling average indicates Harris is trailing Trump in Georgia by 0.6%, a tighter margin compared to July 30, when she lagged by 1.4%.
